I had to make a decision last night to tear the fenders and running boards off my 40 Ford Tudor so I could properly adjust the hood and make everything work. We are short on time and need to head home to Alaska but I needed to spend the time making a 400 mile trip for parts. I mentioned to the wife this morning that I would be even further behind as I was going to have to spend a half day pulling the car apart. When I got home and put the parts in the shop I turned on the lights and found the running boards and fenders on the floor and the grille assembly on the bench. Yes, she does have a sister but you wouldn't want her. I may be the luckiest man alive. PS. When I read this to her and asked her if I should post it she laughed and said " you forgot to mention I took the tires and wheels to the tire shop" She said I shouldn't post this but I think there are too many stereotypes of women and girls who can't turn a wrench. The best ones can and do, along with being super mothers. I should probably wait for Mothers Day to post this, but I won't.

You are a lucky man. Or, you make good choices...lol Its great when the better half wants to be involved beyond riding to shows at vineyards and such. My wife likes going to junk yard with me and stripping trim parts...she is meticulous and has smaller hands than me. On my last build she rode with me 5hr round trip to a yard and took all the trim, lights, and interior bits off a donor car while I pulled the rear end out.
My better half let me build a 24 by 30 garage on her property, and took out a loan to make it happen. Her sister is married, but I have the better choice...
My wife goes to work every day and gives me half of her check to buy car parts with. She loves to go to the drags and she loves dirt track racing even more. She helps me every time I need help. She carpeted my last Morris Minor while I was at work.

Reflections on the green… was a display of old hot rods and custom cars, along side of a tour of historic homes in Orange County. Hot Rods and historic homes, what a combo ! Hello, This all-black, 56 Chevy, 2 door post model had the deepest black paint as described by my equal half. She could see herself (as all women/girls love mirrored surfaces…) in the shiny paint and even saw the neighboring blue/white 55 Chevy in the reflection, quite well. The reflection looked like a “stock from the factory” Bel Air motif on the side of the black, 2 door post. She does not work on cars, but has a keen eye taking photographs of hot rods and cruisers whenever she gets the chance. Cool designs work in art, hot rods, custom homes, furniture, etc. When she came home from this photo outing, she looked at the color photos of my 58 black Impala and said that this 56 had just as deep, black paint as the Impala, 60 years later. Jnaki As much as she liked the simple aluminum rims, she preferred her old blue El Camino’s 5 spoke American Mag Wheels even for this 56 all black Chevy. She specifically mentioned that “the look” makes the car…etc. If it were her 1956 Chevy, the 5 Spoke American Mags would definitely look much better, along with a little front end lowering. IHHO But, she knows how to appeal to the old hot rod, roadster guy buried somewhere in our long time history together. She took a photo of this tri- carb SBC roadster that fits right into the “traditional” 50s-60s So Cal style and popularity…” Drive what you have…”
Went to work while I stayed home. Sometime she does comment that she wishes that she was retired also but that's what happens when you marry a younger woman. She doesn't work on cars or drive tractors but she is a great cook and she washes the dishes and cleans. I've enjoyed her company for over 30 years now and I still enjoy being with her.
She took the fire bottles to be re-certified for The Circus on Monday, helped change to the new carb on Tuesday, we will re-time the mag tonight, and between helping my mother (who lives with us) she 'plays' in her studio doing; pinstriping, art lamp projects, other art projects and this weekend we start the load-up for El Mirage. And she will be inspecting cars next Friday first event of the year, then Saturday she will climb into a firesuit and make a pass.
Hello, One day I left my laptop open while I was out in the garage. When I came back, it was still open to the page with scalloped hot rods and cruisers. It was on the kitchen island counter. I was trying to get going on a drawing of a scalloped Chevy cruiser from the late 50s, early 60s, that I remember from those times. One thing led to another and I was gone for about 30 minutes in the garage. Then about a week later, these popped up on our couch. There were several pillows with a hot rod scallop design on them sitting on our couch. It immediately reminded me of those old M.C. Escher paintings we used to see in the 60s. We used to go crazy looking at those paintings with fish, birds, or whatever came into the artist’s mind. As a way to get our (then) toddler a different prospective on art, we allowed him to look at those crazy books and paintings back in those days. (Did it work? Later on, our son had shown a talent to be a graphic artist with skills far beyond our talents. Maybe it did work. Maybe it did not... Like looking at hot rods…etc.) Since there were two of the pillows, each had the scallop design going one way or the other. What got into my wife in her decorating ideas? A car influence? I kept quiet for fear of those pillows biting the dust and being returned to the store. It is a similar situation for most women shopping. (buy, try, then return) Ha! Jnaki Finally, I asked her where she got those pillows. Her answer was… “I saw that you were looking at old hot rods and cruisers with scallops. Not that I want those scallops on our cars, but they were interesting. So, I found these nice pillows to replace the old ones.” (not quite a year old) Well, how nice that she notices my viewing habits. Of course, she does have a taste in cars, old or new. (She loved driving the 40 Ford Sedan Delivery with a 327 and A/C.) She was a fast learner when we bought a 5 speed car a long time ago. Even though, she never knew how to drive a stick shift car. A hot rod, trooper for sure. Our guard dog at the ready…
inspiration Hello, We have been together for a long time. So, last week, my wife saw me drawing some flames on a red 55 Chevy Bel Air Sedan in several different versions. There wasn’t much to do to make the 55 a mild custom, except for some nice flames, a Cal rake, and some spiffy wheels. Then the flames must have sparked something in her mind as there were wildfires going on all over California. (The biggest one in California history burning parts of Mendocino and one big fire spreading in SE Orange County) more inspiration The flames on the 1955 Chevy drawing and a green truck drawing with more flames, kept me busy. So, since she is an avid reader and prolific shopper, she brought out a page from one of her monthly mags to show me something special. Back in 2012, we took our precocious granddaughter on one of the many shopping trips in the OC. At age 6, she was already starting the clothes hound, teenage modus operandi. She was always dressed to the hilt in cute stuff. Everywhere we were able to take her on our daily outings she was up to the minute in style. Grandma would have it no other way !!! Future avid shopper with dreams of the high school prom… She had her own stylish shoes, but, loved to walk around in grandma’s heels and shoes. One day, we were looking at some fancy shoes in a high end shoe store. The little toddler already knew I loved flames from the million flame drawings I drew during our “art” drawing days. So, she pointed out these 2012 Prada Flame Shoes could be my favorite and when her foot grows, it would be hers, too. (a proud grandpappy !) 2012 PRADA FLAME HEELS So, these days, she is still a fashion maven being taller, wiser, older and all…We sent her the latest photo that my wife saw in a recent magazine. Jnaki It is the “last look’’ for $1100. The immediate text reply from our 8th grader was “YES !!!” No hot rod driving in these shoes. A back-up beeper is probably a necessity. Hmmm, maybe a garage tinkerer’s project in the making.
I have a bit of a thing for heels. I seem to collect them but damn those are ugly. I drive in 7 inch heels all the time. Soon gets to a point its just natural and you drop the clutch as if in flats but on tippie toes. And since I dont have a wife to post about(or husband) i guess I will leave it at that just couldn't help but remark on the shoes ><'
While attending the NSRA Street Rod Nats in Louisville Wednesday-Sunday it gave my wife plenty of time to clean the garage to hide or throw out things she thought I didn't need. Last night I needed several zip ties and couldn't find them. Another trip to Auto Zone. Gary
Man, talk about good timing with this thread! I was out in the shop this morning, real warm out so had one door open, my wife walks into the shop (her once a year token visit) and says "can I wash my Nova", this is our long term and seldom touched project that's been painted for 30 years and not even buffed out yet, hell, the engine hasn't even ever been installed, consequently it had quite a layer of dust on it, good god, I forgot how good it looks. Guess I'll keep her around. Sorry, can't show it, not HAMB kosher by two years and I've been reminded by the mods more than once.
Brenda doesn't spend too much time in the garage, she will lend a hand if I need it but mainly she works in order to keep me up in the manner I am accustom too. She did wash her wagon over the weekend. HRP
