Could somebody lay out how things work at this venue/event. Is it always at the same location? Where do folks mostly stay when attending? Are there any special security arrangements for the event cars etc? I always seem to be heading in a different direction when this event is on, but would like to attend in the near future. I got kin in town now so it will definitely happen.
It has been at the same location for some time now, We usually stay on the strip. Taxi ride was only like $15. We always have a great time! I thought the cars were decent this year, not as many ratty looking shit
The quality of rides seems to have improved, I was working in Vegas during the first two Viva's the lot was crawling with rodents..
I attended this event (as spectator) for the first time this year. The show is at the New Orleans hotel/casino. Looking on youtube and the web etc. I assumed much like others have said, that a lot of the cars would be in rougher shape- I also was impressed with the quality of many of the rides. On Saturday when I attended there were lots of pinup girls/tattoos/rockabilly- all good fun! I stayed down on Fremont - knowing I would not be able to stay at the Orleans because there are people that really love this event and book it up. By the time I had vacation approvals and plans- there was no cost advantage to buy show tickets on line and figured I would buy the tickets at the gate early- big mistake- show was sold out! Thanks to showing up early and my wife pleading our case to the right people we were able to gain tickets- regular price but not cheap by Midwest standards/ 40$ each. Expensive taxi rides from old side of Vegas - but the show was still the highlight of my Vegas trip. (been there before)
to try and answer answer your questions, based on my experience.........Event has been at the Orleans for sometime. once the Orleans is booked, the organizers have arrangements with other hotels. Basically, folks stay everywhere. once your car is inside the show area, it's there until the event is over. Security guards roam everywhere. It is a must see event. I already have my room booked for next years. BigMike
I was last there around '06. I'd hate to see the rodents vanish -- by far some of the nicest folks I met were part of that scene, but it's nice to find a balance of cars and folks. The show should be Ok in the years ahead -- as long as it don't turn into a bunch of silverbacks standing by their trailer queens with spray bottles and microfiber cloths...
