You really can't use a simple toggle switch for the turn signals because it won't switch out the brake circuit at the same time it is engaging the turn signal. You need a real turn signal switch. That being said, at one time I managed to get a system to work using two spdt switches that didn't have a center off position, but that was a lot of fooling around Sent from my SM-T350 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I have found that out, although I figured using the trailer converter, as per a previously posted schematic, would allow it to work. Thanks.
Jim I believe what you are saying, just that with the converter above and the toggle switch I had used (per the posted schematic) I couldn't get a turn signal function. The lights would come on but not flash. I'm waiting on a regular add on turn signal switch with lever to show up so I can wire that in and see what I get. Thanks.
Why purchase a converter when a switch can do it all? https://www.summitracing.com/parts/...MIlPLLltfV2gIVDjFpCh1hXwn6EAQYASABEgKugvD_BwE https://www.summitracing.com/parts/...MIlPLLltfV2gIVDjFpCh1hXwn6EAQYBSABEgKNPPD_BwE
Wasn't there something about one of these suppliers "kits" concerning the turn signals???? IIRC there was a wire in the fuse box that is on the wrong terminal causing an issue. If you do not have LED bulbs then the flasher unit should be getting power thru it to the light and see enough load to break over and flash the signals.
Good News! Jeremy at Rebel wire called me this AM and spent some time on the phone with us going through some troubleshooting. He and I have come to the conclusion that the "trailer box" is no good. Everything was hooked up the way it should have been but we were getting no output from the box to the brake lights. He said he has seen this before and suggested that for ease of install, because I already have a toggle switch, that I get the American Auto wire switch. He felt that would solve my issues. As an FYI for others out there they had power problems at their shop. It seems a power pole had gone over on Friday in a wind storm and taken out their electricity, phones, and internet. He told me they were just now getting back out from under the backup this caused. Good guys! Very helpful!
Yes it is. It's neat that Rebel suggest's it also. But you knew right off what OP's issue was. The output from the brake switch and it's interaction with the turn switch or lack of interaction per a proper switch. This always seems to become a head scratcher for some.
A follow up for the folks still here... a regular hang on the column type turn signal switch showed up today via UPS and when we wired it in per instructions we automagically have turn, brake, park and hazard lights. It seems the box we used was the issue. I really appreciate the help folks offered here as I was finally able to, after 4 years, take my "first ride" up and down the street today!! You can't knock the smile off my face with a hammer!! Here's some proof!
Good deal, glad it worked out for you. You have my luck, getting a bad trailer wire box. Good luck. Like your bad ass ride.
I bought my wiring set up from Rebel Wire and am very happy with it.Called their phone number one evening and one of the fellas was eating supper(sorry to interrupt your victuals!) and answered all my questions and shipped a supplement I needed immediately. Great folks, great product.I'd buy from them again.
