So after waiting 10 weeks for my license plate it finally showed up today. Took the roadster out for the first time and picked up my Mentor to take him for a spin. He's 86 and it pains me to see how frail he has become but his heart is still into the automobile scene. He ran a restoration business and I have seen him do so many amazing things over the years. I believe he has forgotten more than most guys know. It was so special for me to be able to do this as I used to be his biggest pain in the ass. I hung around his shop and would constantly be asking him how to do different things. He always would take the time to show me but never once did he do it for me. Always show me how and say " now you go ahead and do it". I truly appreciate him for this. Any way, seeing the smile on his face as I was mixing the gears made the three years building this roadster so worth it.
Good deal right there. Hopefully you will have a young pain in the ass kid who is interested in hot rods so you can pass on the tradition and tricks of the trade also . Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Grow old doing what you love...good medicine. Thats nice of you to share this moment with those who can truly appreciate it for what it is...have fun out there and more pics please...there's more to this than meets our eyes...
Nice gesture ---- I hope someone with a hot rod picks me up when I'm 86. Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
Nice work statsblue we should never forget where we received our passion! I wish someone with a Hot Rod would take me for a spin now! When I'm 86 it may be too late! Joe
statesblue, That is so AWESOME! I am so happy for you and I have to admit that I am a little envious too. To have a relationship like that with an older man that is a mentor and a teacher is literally priceless. My dad was that man for me. He passed away in 2009 so I no longer have the influence of an older "hot rodder" in my life. Treasure your time with him! Steve
Just reading this post will make my whole day much brighter. Good on you for taking your pal for a ride in the Roadster.
...lookin at the picture, he must've saved the "smiles" for when you were mixing the gears, LOL,...cool story, ...don't ever forget the old guys, they are a wealth of info...can we see the whole car please?
Gotta honour the old guys that came before us! My Dad and uncles who all had/have cars are on that list. Job well done sir Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
