There's strength in numbers. Us shitbox ford guys gotta stick together. We sneak around and give the Chevy boys sbf firing orders during the night. That ain't cheating either. That's making things fair!!

I better recheck that throttle stop and maybe borrow my buddy's enclosed trailer.:p
There was a rumor going around that the ghost of Grumpy Jenkins is with us and he was last seen standing by the Lakeshore Shaker holding a .010 hammer right before the shims fell out.

I just spent 6 hours getting the valve geometry sorted out on Nathan's FE last night.
I now have a little more respect for you ford guys....... unless you guys are just throwing the parts on.

Yeah. I’ll just take a sohc 427. I’ll deal with 9’ of chain and no pushrods!

Ehhhh idk about that....not sure if that was tongue in cheek or.....I suppose like anything there is just a learning curve with the cam timing

“So what is the SOHC? Essentially, it’s a two-valve, single-overhead-cam conversion of Ford’s 427ci FE V8. The heads were predominantly cast-iron (though later aluminum heads were available) with a roller chain cam-drive—a 6-foot-long timing chain. The choice of chaindrive over a geardrive setup decreased development time and costs, but increased timing variables from the chain’s habit of stretching under load. This resulted in the need to vary the cam timing from one side of the engine to the other to take up the chain slack. With the chain rotating in one direction, the cams also rotate in the same direction, resulting in one cam rotating toward the intake follower and the other away from the follower. To fix this, each bank requires a unique camshaft, with one a mirror of the other, so opening and closing ramps are correctly located.”

I tell you it's a wonder that after 6 hours of checking and measuring then degeeing that at the 4th hour we didn't have a bunch of broke shit.
Nathan is learning patience and a few car things along the way.
Sad thing the car is one year to new for the Meltdown but he can run the Victory NSS with me.

The truth is the body work is the stuff that is killin us.

    It sucks... bad.

  20. makes me glad I have a hemi. Shaft mounted rockers make it easy. To degree it set the engine on tdc. set the lifters at split overlap. set the intake .020 higher than the exhaust and you should be right there. only two more days until the the hemis birthday. Fords and chevies stay off the street.

I suppose Kaase may have helped solve any of the inherent issues with the SOHC. Anyone got $50,000.00 USD I can have?

Lol would be great in the Comet and would really put some extra oomph in the ‘revenge’ side of “Halley’s Revenge”! (That’s what I named my ‘64 Comet)

  23. They do make a gear drive for the sohc. Lots of gears in that gear drive. Makes a cool sound.

So my oldest Boy came out tonight to help get some stuff done on the car,and we got the column yanked out, disassembled and pulled that monstrosity of a pedal assembly (nightmare, would recommend it to nobody),knocked the old bushings out,cut the core support to give more room when pulling the engine/trans,and spent a bunch of time with a really awesome kid that I don’t get to see nearly enough due to a busy work schedule for me,and a busy social life for him.
He also had some photos of some weld testing he’s doing at school, and I’m pretty impressed with how far he’s progressed.

Ugh.....well the ol Ford 429 is superior to the actual Hemi. But such as life, the finer things cost a bit more amount of dollars.
