It's so busy it needs a traffic light. Looks like they did a good job, would like to see the final product as well.

They say you can't "unsee" something but that certainly helps!

There's a lot of Von Dutch in that paint job. If it wasn't his it was someone he influenced.

Hi. With all the paper & tape on the glass, lights and front frame studs, etc. it looks like the paper was never removed after that paint wild paint OR someone was going to paint over it Looks like the paper has been on it for years. If so it will really be fun to remove the masking tape.

Notice the geometric designs and air brush shading on the shirt. This was taken in the early fifties, Von Dutch was doing air brushed shirt designs before anybody. The geometric designs look like something he might have done. But, I believe he was through with this phase before the truck above was even built. This leads me to think it was done by someone who studied Von Dutch's early work.

Mercedes gullwing by Von Dutch. I believe this paint job was done before Roth's truck.

The truck in question was probably NOT done by Von Dutch or Roth, unless it has been locked away in a garage since it was new. Most likely by someone who likes the Von Dutch/Roth school of custom painting. Roth was a friend of Von Dutch and one of his biggest fans, so it is no insult to say he was an influence.

But, I have to say the truck looks more like early fifties Von Dutch.

To remove old masking tape soak it with lighter fluid until it softens the glue, then it will come off easily and not damage the paint.

A heat gun works great too and you won't have the solvent attacking the paint job. On the other hand, I say use the lighter fluid.

It appears that who ever owned it must not have been too impressed with the outcome. That paper and tape were on the truck a long time before whenever it was finally photographed, and they were not in a hurry to get it before the public for viewing. Gene

Looks like the masking tape is were it should be to clear coat the truck. I'm thinking they didn't like the outcome and stopped. Would have taken 15 minutes to remove the masking.

Looking at the tires, they appear to be radials, so I'm thinking it might be a late 70's build. They could have just been put on to roll it around, but from what you can see they may have also been part of the original design for the truck. Kinda a combo of panel painting with graphics and early style flames.
