Hi everyone. I recently picked up this set of hubcaps. I thought they looked similar to the Hollywood flipper hubcaps. Anyway, they measure roughly 13.75" across. Would anyone know what these hubcaps are for?

The last few pictures are the hubcaps on a 16" 40-48 ford wheel, for scale. I know they're not for these wheels but you get a better idea of the size of the hubcaps.

    Thanks,
    George

Not totally sure, but these don't look like "repos". They could be factory-issue...but not sure of the make.

PLUS, the "flippers" weren't "rounded"...they had to have a "flat spot", like Dodge Lancers or Olds Fiestas, to attach the flippers.

I do not know who manufactured the hubcaps you got. They are nice wish more fine ribs than the regular single bar or moon hubcaps from the 1940's that we see most of the times. But there were several companies producing them, and some of them made more than one type.

But the statement Jonnie made is not quite correct. The Flipper hubcaps do not have a flat spot. Basically its just a half moon hubcaps like you have with the ribs on the lower section. You could buy hubcaps like that for a smooth look. But those same hubcaps were also used with as flipper hubcaps, but then some holes were drilled in and the flipper was attached using those holes. But it was basically the same base as what you have.

Thanks for the info Rik! Much appreciated! I need to sell them, I'm just trying to get some info so I can price them correctly.

Can't wait to get your book at GNRS.

    562roadster,

Let me show you what I was talking about...Rik has valid info also, so he's not wrong.

    On the pix below:

    1. #1 Is a Lancer cap...like I have on my '57 Dodge Coronet D500. Notice that the center is sunken-in slightly to have a "flat spot" for the emblem to attach to. This is what I meant. This is the style I was explaining. (You can view mine on my '57 in the "Albums" Section of my Profile )

    2. #2 is an Olds Cap...same method. A slight "flat spot"/indent for the emblem to attach to.

    3. #3 is more of the style that Rik is explaining. And he's right. This style flipper IS curved along with the cap.

So, there are varying styles, and each is cool !

Good luck with those...they will probably clean-up a bit, and will look great for a new owner.

PS: Rik...wish I was able to get to the GNRS to meet up with you ! The book should be a winner !

Those are WIERD clips. Never seen any like that before. You can rule out wide-five Ford and '40 Ford. Maybe some Mopar wheel? Or off-brand?

Other than that, those look like nice wheels. To help you price them, last year I sold a set of five Hollywood flippers that fit a wide-five Ford wheel, same patina, for $800. Since yours might not fit a popular wheel, they could be worth lots less, or lots MORE. ;)

I took some more pictures and did some more research. I looked at Rikster's site and found a set of Hollywood's that have the same clip. Now I need to know what they fit?

    562roadster...

Here's a pic that rodncustom had on his thread that showed similar caps, with spinners, on this '39 Merc.

Thought you'd like to see it:

Here's a pic of what the backside looks like on a Hollywood cap for a wide five wheel:

Different hubcap, the ribs are thicker on this more common hubcap than the one asked about.
