The "official" Lonestar Roundup Garage Crawl

Discussion in 'The 2024 Lone Star Round Up' started by hot-rod-1958, Feb 7, 2018.

  1. The 2018 Lonestar Roundup Garage Crawl will be Friday April 6th.
This year we will start in Buda, TX (just south of Austin) and will stop at several shops that are new to the crawl.

The starting point for the crawl will be Murpho's Rods and Customs. Please note that Murpho's has moved from the Austin location to a new HUGE shop. The new address is 1131 South Loop 4. Buda, TX 78610. To find the shop from Interstate 35 take exit 219 (Robert S. Light Blvd) which is just south of Cabela's. Turn west at the stop sign onto County Road 132. Go about .08 mile on CR-132 and arrive at South Loop 4 (AKA 967). Turn left onto Loop 4 and Murpho's is immediately on your left. Allow plenty of travel time to arrive as Austin traffic on a Friday can be a challenge.

PLEASE NOTE...parking is very limited in front of the shop. Plan to park behind Murpho's. We have permission to park in the Connection Church lot there. We will have members of the Buda Gearheads on hand to assist/direct parking. They will park you in rows facing the road for an easy exit. I am currently working with local law enforcement to assist with traffic flow and safety.
I have arranged for the incredible breakfast taco trailer that we had last year to be at Murpho's. Food will be ready around 6:30 am. Arrive early and come hungry!

I plan to have the driver's meeting around 7:45 am and we will depart at 8:00 am. This start time should allow us to avoid school zones and buses as well as the morning traffic crush. Direction sheets will be passed out as we start the meeting.

    General information for participants...
Everyone is welcome on the crawl and there is no charge to participate. Crawl participants do not have to be registered for the Roundup. FYI...some shops are brand new construction (my new shop included) that may not be completely finished so some rooms or stairs may be off limits. I also ask that if you are in a late model vehicle or a rental car please stay at the tail end of the pack.

    See you on the 6th!

Ye haaa, looking forward to it MG . Hope to drive our ol banger 32 on the crawl . So have a peek out in your shop to see how frail and aging it is , keep us posted if it needs a walking frame or some Viagra . Or a wheel chair, to help it make the crawl .
The crawl is a highlight of the roundup. We are flying 14 hrs to take in the Roundup , Bring it on . The people ,the food, the fun , the cars, the music, the swap meet, best of all the crawl.

Thanks Mark. Last year was my first, and a total blast. It was also obvious how much work went into it, so hats off to you and those helping you. Looking forward to it again this year.

Not gonna make the Crawl this year. I'll be at the show as a spectator on Saturday, but the Friday fun ain't in the cards. That pesky little storm that hit here back last August is still taking it's toll.

  8. Sorry to hear that you won't make it Friday. Hope you and your family are doing OK. Hope to see you next time.

It's all good. Thanks, we're doing fine. Just worn out! LOL Harvey beat Rockport pretty bad- lots of work done & lots more still to do, but it's the price we pay to live on the Gulf Coast.

I sincerely hope there's a better turn out at Dells this year. We missed it due to a leaking fuel line that had to be dealt with, & I know you had troubles as well last year. I recall hearing turn-out was low.

  11. Latest information...I just received word that we will NOT be going to Dell Children's Hospital for the last stop on the garage crawl. A date/time conflict was just discovered and they have several food trucks scheduled to be there for the kids and staff Friday at the same time we had planned to arrive. Hopefully we'll be able to make a visit next year.

Did drive and distance the route yesterday with Mark so he could check it for accuracy and print sheets. It looks really great considering last minute changes he had to deal with. Will be a fun crawl for sure.
Catch you all at Murphos in the morning.

That was good fun. Even the random conversation I had with a confused neighbor at the first stop was entertaining. She was feeling a bit under seige;)

She was across the park from you. She wasn't mad or anything. She was just trying to figure out what was going on.

About stop 3 or 4 we did have a through driver fairly pissed off. At the apex of cars at each stop it got a bit crazy.

  18. At my house/shop I was told that my next door neighbor was standing on her front porch with arms folded and had an angry look on her face. MOST EXCELLENT. She is mad at us simply because we built our home and shop on the empty lot next to her and "spoiled" her view. Wonder if she would enjoy open headers on an early Saturday morning?

As best as we could tell there were around 250 vintage cars and untold numbers of late model (shudder) vehicles on the garage crawl this year. The breakfast tacos were fantastic once again. I was surprised at the number of first timers on the garage crawl (what have you been waiting for?). We also had folks from Canada, Sweden and so many Kiwis from New Zealand it left me wondering who was watching the country in their absence (ha ha).
I do want to extend a sincere thanks to all the friends that opened their private shops, Murpho's for being a great host for the start point and the guys at Austin Speed Shop for coming to the rescue at the very last minute as some shops dropped off the crawl. Hope everyone enjoyed seeing what was hiding in our backyards and garages. A special thanks goes to Bryan and Wendy from NZ who ran the route with me earlier in the week and double checked my mileage to make sure I didn't get any of you lost.

Hope to see y'all next year!

We flew in, so we rented the most vintage car Alamo had. It was a Nissan somethingorother. Thanks for allowing those of us in rented plastic cars the chance to ride along. It was my son's favorite part of the vacation's festivities, as he loves any type of reliability run or hot rod drive, and this one came with workshops!

    Mark,
Loved your Crawl! All the work you and your team put in showed. Your directions were easy for an out of towner to follow and were the best I've ever used. Fantastic event! Thank you.
