Gentleman. I'm in the process of building a hot rod Crosley. I know, I know but boys just have to play. The motor is done and I have installed a Denso alternator from a 1987 Suzuki, bought new at local auto supply. I Know about the main line running back to battery, the the three terminals on the back have me confused. I have installed an idiot light in dash and know one goes there but the other two ? Don't want to screw up a new alternator.
Can't see squat with that photo but have you already done a search for the wiring diagram for the model of car the alternator was intended for? That would be the first step. This ebay item should be the plug you need for the back of the alternator eBay item number: 301835044596 That would mean that you should be able to source it locally too. That is if the plug matches your alternator as I see there are two plug types. https://www.google.com/search?q=198...bZ7p7aAhULs1QKHcWdDJ0QsAQIRw&biw=1094&bih=498
OK, hot wire running thru idiot light to "L" terminal ? And hot wire off + side of ignition switch to "IG" terminal ? "S" terminal (or number 1 in first diagram) not used ?
I guess while I'm asking questions.............how does the original amp gauge figure into the wiring ?
From what I saw S terminal is not used, for safety sake I would use a volt gauge and eliminated the ammeter. KK
I have no problem with a volt meter. How would it be wired into this ? Between the solenoid and main line on alternator ?
Since the main line from the battery runs right behind where I would put a gauge, would it be OK to put the gauge right in that line ?
The positive terminal on the voltage gauge should go to source that is only on when the ignition is on. You do not want the gauge to be on all the time. The negative terminal should go to a good ground. KK
Volt meter can run off any switched 12v power... run switched power wire to meter, and then a wire from the meter to ground. By switched I mean a wire that is powered after the key is turned on. For a key with ACC and RUN positions choose the RUN position live circuit. Chappy
