I took this one last weekend as I changed bays in the garage in preparation for mounting the body soon.

I don't know if it is artsy enough but it does have a diorama feel to it.

    Hello,

It was 1959 and we were hot rod/drag race fanatics. I am sure living so close to Lions Dragstrip did not hurt, with the noise, fast cars and stuff. Being in the center of our old neighborhood with all of the hot rod shops helped make that decision easier. But, photography for us was in its infancy. There were Brownie cameras, but they were not for us. Who knows why? My parents did not like or use them.

My dad had an old 4x5 Graflex bellows camera he had for many years sitting in a closet. His family shots were extremely clear, but the photos were posed and not random. At least they lasted all of these years. Those negatives would have made a ton of great photos, today. But alas, they are gone to negative heaven.

The cold morning at Riverside turned into a hot afternoon of racing all day. The big names from the East came out to race the hot racers from So Cal. Somehow, a double exposure photo pops up now and then when I go back to watch or edit some sections of the films.

Do you get better gas mileage that way?

There are many, as I did threads on different components over the last 5 years but the most up to date is form paint forward at https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/brian-made-me-do-it.1085156/
Someday, i'll have to add the other threads in my signature so they are in place.

I have no idea since it has never moved under it's own power. I know the questions quasi-facetious but the only fuel she has burned was the 5 gallons I had in the tank at burn in, and a few start ups for fun to listen to the flatty.

Here is my artsy photo of the day. I call it "the towering fuelburno"

I always kinda liked the statement in this shot; Willys in silhouette, Hemi, Hilborns, Halibrands and a race car trailer background. And if you look close it says "racing" in faded lettering on the trailer above the radiator area.
It was taken in the doorway of my header shop in Redondo Beach, Ca. back when I was building the Willys to go nostalgia racing.

    Hello,

With two of the primary developers of the Lions Dragstrip Museum having a conversation near the Willie Borsch/Mousie Marcellus, Fuel Altered Roadster…it might go like this:

“Sshh, now that we have finished prepping the Winged Express, lets quietly roll it to its place on the floor…”

“Ok, we are out of hearing distance, so we are fine. What do you mean put it in the corner display?” Not in the center of the main floor?”

“Wild Willy” Borsch is one of those names. You see back In the late 1950s and early 1960s, before there were funny cars, fuel altereds were the baddest things in drag racing. Top-fuel dragsters were fastest, but the short-wheelbase, nitro-burning, fire-belching fuel altereds were what the folks came to see."

"But, the one that always stood out as being Paul Newman cool, was the Winged Express. With Wild Willie Borsch hanging his arm out the side of the car. Al Marcellus, known as Mousie, was his alter ego, his agent, mechanic, chauffeur and constant companion.”

"Wild Willie was an early drag racing icon who got his nickname because he drove with his hand outstretched and Al Marcellus was the team's builder, crew chief, sponsor and press agent. Together they were one of the most formidable teams in racing."

The power of burning Nitromethane…brings results.

"Ahh...center stage again... stick that driveshaft back in, I am ready..."
