With many suspension mods I think my ‘36 is finally looking cool in my opinion. It has been quite a journey. When I bought the genuine barn find last year it had the stance of an early 60’s untouched hot rod.
The back end had a 2” steel block on top the spring making the rear end even higher thank stock. The spring we removed had lots of wear from many years carrying heavy loads. Almost what you might expect to see under an old tow truck. Having spent its life in southern VA I will let you guess what this car might have hauled on back roads late at night many years ago. That is quite another story.
The engine is a fresh rebuild 8BA Flathead backed by a 3 speed and original banjo rear. Front end is a complete Posies in the dirt disc brake kit with a 1” rise shim up front. Rear is a Posies low reverse eye spring and 2 1/2” lower extended spring shackles out back. [IMG]

  10. Great job cleaning up that 'shine hauler rake. Love these "survivor" stories. If that '36 could talk, imagine the stories it could tell.

  13. Nice!! Smaller lower profile tire for the front will bring that front end down a little. Maybe 195/50s.

I finally have the car the way I want it to be! I love the stance. We removed the top two leaf springs from the Posies reverse low eye set up in the rear. I also went back to the smaller tires in the back. My car is Flathead powered with a banjo rear end. I would be happy to share the formula for this look on a 35-40 Flathead coupe. I had a very hard time getting it right and it might save someone a lot of trial and error.

  17. What a time capsule; really dig it!
Stance is right on. What did you finally end up with for tire sizes and axle drop? Unsplit wishbone?

    The wishbone is not split

I used a Posies Rod Shop in the dirt complete front end kit from Pennsylvania. To that I added a one inch spacer above the front spring to clear the tires turning side to side. The rear has a banjo rear end from about a 41 Ford. I used a Posies low reverse eye drop spring. The two top leaves have been removed. I also used a pair of 2.5” lowering shackles from Speedway. The tires are 205/70/15 all around.

Very nice- time for you to enjoy it now congrats.

  28. Stance looks good, the slightly smaller rear tires do look better than the larger ones. Have fun driving it.

Did you stay with the longer shackles out back? I’m in the process of getting the rear lower on my ‘36 and am a little weary of moving to longer shackles. Besides the sway, I used 3/4” nylon inserts in the rear as the original style shackle was too hard to get in the spring or the rear.
