Taxes are the price of civilization.

There are numerous roads that lead out of state, in case you were unaware.

No annual inspection in Nebraska......the only problem is you have to live in Nebraska...lol.
We have an inspection if you have to title a car from out of state, VIN check only....no horn brake smog muffler crap. I think it is around $10.00 one time cost.

The no inspection thing is a two way street.......good if you take care of your vehicle.......bad for everyone if you do not!

Here in NB there is a yearly inspection for ALL vehicles.........I'm sure folks have found a way around it but.....for the most part there are virtually no vehicles running around in a dangerous condition......... with the exception of vehicles with serious recalls from the factory of which I understand, there are many! :(

On the living in one state and tagging the rig in another. We used to have a lot of that here before we got the annual taxes cut down. The state Patrol would cruise neigborhoods in cities and towns close to the border and issue tickets to vehicles that were registered in Oregon for Washington residents. About that time you could go into an office in Seattle and get Alaska tags for your car or truck or a cheap price and guys were getting busted for that.
No inspections in this state except smog in some of the counties around Puget Sound but sometimes I wish there was an annual inspection with the clapped out rigs some of these "undocumented workers" drive.

I don't have a problem paying taxes. I've worked full time here and paid them without ever being unemployed since 1975. Without getting political, I do have a problem when others don't, and I feel gouged when my taxes and "fees" continually rise and I don't see any changes to the way things are.

I'm well aware of the roads out. They seem to be one-way. The last 8 people that retired from my work place cashed in their chips and relocated out of state. When I retire in 5 years, I'll be able to afford to stay here, however I'll be fortunate enough to have the option of selling my home for 2-3 times what a comparable home goes for out of state. Everyone has their threshold.

I can see why we have so many people moving to Virginia from Mass. One time $50. Fee to register your antique tag, 25 years and older. No inspection either, although if you read the code a trooper can escort you to an inspection station if he wants to. Although I haven't ever heard anyone having it happen.
Lower taxes, better weather. Williamsburg area isn't a bad place to live, not crowded like up north.

Here's the Mass. reg. on exhaust inspection:

    (5) Muffler and Exhaust System. Accelerate motor to test for prevention of unnecessary noise and emission of any unreasonable amount of smoke. The exhaust system, exhaust manifold(s), exhaust pipe(s), muffler(s), and tailpipe(s), if designed to be so equipped, shall be tight and free of leaks. System components shall be securely fastened with fasteners in place and undamaged. All motor vehicle exhaust systems shall discharge the exhaust beyond operator, passenger, and/or trunk compartment. Unnecessary noise is herein defined as any noise which is louder than that emitted by the vehicle when equipped with the original manufacturer's equipment

Doesn't sound like there's a hot rod with an engine swap that's got a chance of meeting that requirement. How's a T, Deuce, A, V8-swapped-anything ever going to be as quiet as the original car? And sounds arbitrary as heck with no db rates given as what was "original". I wonder if folks are actually getting rejection stickers for this now with cameras in the inspection bay (do they have audio?) or will it be one of the things that stations will let slide, as they have in the past, if it's not too outrageous. Would be good to hear some actual experiences, or are we going to have to wait until the snow melts (which may be never) for cars to come out of their garages and undergo inspection.

Mass is a pain in the You know what. When I lived there many years ago and had to go through mandatory inspection it was always the flavor of the year. One year it seemed everyone was hit with ball joint defects and the next year it was something else. Seeing that the inspection stations were alsso repair garages they got the work or you got this ugly rejection stickers. I do not mean to imply that many of the garages were devious but it did allow some a open field to do a number on people

Here in Nevada there is a free VIN inspection for cars brought into the state.
No inspections, certificates or stickers of road worthiness.
90+% of the state has no smog test. Only the large cities have smog tests on 1968 and newer cars with many exceptions. (No State Income Tax )

  17. I live in Pa and they relaxed their rules a few years ago and included a hot rod title for cars that are well, Hot Rods. I wish they would ticket the crap out of the driver's of triaxles and tractor and trailers. They are more dangerous than a Hot Rod that isn't inspected.

  18. Just bought a house in Texas. Buh Bye, California, sanctuary, Jerry Brown, pot holes, pot heads, libtards and all the other BS. Only took 70 years to wise up

The operative words are "so far". I wouldn't want to find out "not now". I agree, however, that Bennington is a cool town, the Mehhing's museum is kind of neat (especially the Brewster), the bathrooms are cutely labeled Diesel and Ethyl and the Four Chimneys Inn is an excellent place to stay. I picked up a very cool old dash somewhere out there.

Can't imagine any insurance company allowing you to insure a car in a different state then the one you live in.

Gman, VT does not require insurance believe it or not but of course it would be really, really stupid to not have it for so many reasons. One would be that you'd get busted in a state that does require it. It does help not being required when the car is in a million pieces in the garage still being built and you need all the green you can get to finish it. I have used Heacock in FL for insurance for years, very nice and helpful folks by the way, and they have no problem with where the car is registered, they just want to know where it is garaged. I only title/register in VT for the unusual cars that I know NY will probably have a problem with. An example would be a Superformance Cobra, NY does not like them or the mentioned Beck Porsches. If you build a motorcycle they treat you as if you drown puppies for a living.

Here in GA, out of 159 counties, only 13 require a smog check, and that's for vehicles less than 25 years old, IIRC. Same for titles, only for vehicles under 25. Vehicles sold new before '62 have NEVER had a title in GA.:) Bought a '40 Ford coupe in OH, broght it home and went to tag office with bill of sale and an OH title. Lady said all she needed was the bill of sale to make a copy, along with OH reg. cert. Np place on forms to show the title I had, so I put it in safe deposit box at bank just for the unlikely event I ever sell it:confused:
May get chastised for this, but yall need to look into SEMA-SAN membership, as they let you know as soon as a motor vehicle bill hits the hopper at ypour state legislature and SEMA also woks for us on Federal level. Stay informed as to your representatives at both state and Federal levels and contact them when SEMA alerts you. The "hot rod law" in PA din't just happen it took work from people like SEMA and contact to reps from their constituents.

  25. Just reregistered my car in N Texas yesterday. 5 year antique plates 65. No inspection, and no smog in my area. I thought about getting vanity plates since my Hamb tag is available, but...........200. annually, have to put a plate on the front, and, annual inspections. I decided to stay with the antique plates. I can put 1957 plates on it and register it as an antique with antique rules (or lack of) applicable. I'll be happy with just a NSRA inspection sticker just to let others know what I know.
When I got my Texas title a few years back, it had a notation on the title that it was subject to verification of vin number. That just requires going to a state inspection station and having them look at the vin plate! I already had a Colorado title in my name, which is legal anywhere, but I thought I'd keep things neat as posible in case my wife is in a position to sell the car upon my dimise, lol.. I love the no BS in Texas. Was pretty much the same in Colorado when I registered and titled it there about 15 years ago.
I also am a Massachusetts escapee. Left in 1967 at the age of 20, grew up there, didn't take me long to tire of the BS attitudes.

Oh, no. No problem. Just that the reg fees were hiked to 150%, and my F100 now costs $130 per year.
Even the 'sane' part of Cali where we live, there is 'trickle-down Cali-nomics'.:p
Hate it here...but with 2 driveways, 2-1/2 car garage, a 20' X 25' steel carport, a nice shop (my young wife built it for me) in back, quiet street that dead-ends with a cul-de-sac, great neighbors...
Unfinished projects...It'd be hard to move. Best part of Cali, 'socially & politically'...

All diesels? Smog wasn't a thing on diesels until 06-07 i thought, so what would they be checking?

And i think its time for me to start looking at houses in nh.
