Had a growling noise in my clutch. Pulled motor and trans, found some issues. I have never seen a pilot bushing like this. Has anyone seen one like this? Fairly large and held in with a lock ring. This is a 354 hemi with a mopar 833 4spd.
What held that pilot bushing in? I know the hole in the crankshaft isn't even close to that to that big.
Crank has groove with a lock ring. I have never seen anything like this. The ID on the pilot has a little play on the input shaft, not a lot but some.
Must be more than one way to do it. My adapter uses a Spacer between the Crank and flywheel. The spacer has a shoulder at the rear and the Factory bushing presses in and against the shoulder keeping the bushing from passing all the way through. With my adapter being 7/8" thick the input shaft don't quite get to the Crankshaft. My crankshaft don't have any snap ring grove at all. Strange stuff there dartracer. The Wizzard
Kind of looks the the pilot on my 55 chevy ls motor mated to 4 speed super t10. This one is stepped to fit in LS flywheel and then mate to 4-5/6 speed. They make combination pilot bearings. It sort of looks like yours is something along those lines.
I’ll be actually doing the same thing g next year hopefully as I have a s23 hemi from a desoto that I’ll be putting a mopar 4 speed with it. I’ll need to know soon, just not that soon lol.
Here are some pics of the groove and the lock ring. Could this thing have an industrial crank in it ? This is my first early hemi, had 426’s been in mopars for 40 years and have never seen this.
How loose is to loose, clearance calls for .754, the old bushing is .810. The noise I was getting was coming from the through out bearing.
You have a truck crankshaft just like I do. When I bought my adapter from Wilcap, Patrick sent me a passenger car pilot bearing. I gave him the truck dimensions and he sent me the right bronze-oilite bushing. If you can't find one locally, call Patrick at Wilcap. he now knows which one you need.
