Ok this one has been burning a hole in my head. I can't get it out of my head, I've asked around on my Buick forums with no luck so time to ask the big dogs. Does any body have any info on this Buick Drag car. It looks like a 64 but could be a 65. On the fender I looks to be running a 430 (same moter I plan putting in my 65 Skylark), and it also looks to say Sacramento on the fender. Any history will help.
That's NOT a gasser. It looks like an early altered wheelbase funny car (and that is NOT A/FX either) Not killing you on this , but drives me nuts when people refer to something as a "gasser" when it was not.
Here's what I found. It was an A/FX based on a 1965 Skylark coupe built by Dick’s Speed Center of Yreka, California. The rear axle and wheel openings moved forward a foot. The front fenders were unmodified but the stock coil-spring independent front suspension was replaced by a straight axle and leaf springs and pushed forward several inches and lifted 6". Your photo must be an older photo because it was mentioned it had a Hilborn-injected Nailhead with ram tubes sticking out of a Ford Thunderbolt hood blister.
To explain further, it's not a legal NHRA gas coupe with the altered wheelbase. It is not a legal NHRA factory experimental car (A/FX) because of the altered wheelbase, fuel injection, tube axle and probably a lot more non-factory equipment.
Would B&N be the shop Noel Black was partnered in? I am also curious if the rear was done the same way Gay's first GTO was done.
