well, good news. After a two day long battle got the motor running. All we needed was a relay so the coil would get a constant 12 volts. Got a new 650 carb on the way, lookin for some deep 12s. we’re coming for ya salty!

I think wanting to keep it period correct, there needs to be a standard tree.

Could do a legit flashlight or flag start part of an evening to keep it how it was “done on the streets” maybe?

I know it’s a movie, not sure how accurate this scene was to how things really were in ‘62, wasnt alive back then.

Somebody educate me on the tree. When did it show up? Were there any early versions etc. etc....? What came before the sportsman countdown?

  9. in 1965 at byron they flagged the cars with two flag men when they raced four wide. i have it on video. several tracks used a regular traffic light before a tree became the standard. union grove being one of them. flagging would be cool for a few races.

    3 window Mike-

Look for hotels in Rochelle or right off the freeway in Rockford. There is not much in Byron, you will be 20 minutes away. Quite a few stay at the Fairfield Inn in Rockford. It is newer, clean and has complimentary breakfast.

Our sign painter surprised us with a little trinket to take along to the Meltdown. He bought a bunch of surplus traffic lenses that he's been using to practice his craft. We think it's pretty cool.

If you are 9.99 or quicker you need one. We recommend everyone gets one as it can sure cut down on track clean up time.
