Pity the sandblaster too. Can you imagine what a dusty mess he had to clean up.

 

DAMN! you've got a big job ahead of you.
The good news, you can do a pretty terrible job and still be proud that it looks better than when you started.

Sure hope he had an idea how bad it was before bringing it home from the blasters.

I let out an audible gasp when I saw that first picture of the roof. Wow!

I don't know who "built" it, what was paid or any of those details, but I do know the car is worth saving and I'm glad it made it into your hands instead of someone who may have either scrapped it altogether or just continued building based on what had already been done.

The job is looking good so far!

WOW! I guess when they said they were going too fill the roof they really "filled the roof"....With bondo!

Probably was an extra thick skim coat, and a fancy paint job away from making it to Barret Jackson.

 

Question; just how many pounds of bondo did you remove from that?

 

Would probably be $$ ahead to sell that as the lower remnants for someone else to use, then find a better body for a builder.

But it sure is fun watching you fix this one. go man go

 

I guess I don’t understand what the thought process was for whoever did that. The amount of work involved to do something so bad had to be way more than just doing it right!

There wasn' enough money in the budget for another body. He is too deep in this one and would loose way too much money selling it. Best just to move forward.
And yes if he had to pay by the hour it may not be affordable to fix it. I'm helping him out and getting the let left over body parts....4 sedan quarters, the shitty doors and the cowl sides. I see a tub in my future...
I was hoping to build a B400 out of the left overs...but the doors are scrap from te belt line up

 

I hate to discourage and downgrade some one's work.....but when you do shitty work like this and cover both sides with filler to hide it and then sell it for double what it's worth......sorry I have no respect for you....sell your tools and take up stamp collecting!!

 

That roof had to have taken at least 4 gallons of bondo. Don't ask how I know that.

 

Someone got a Stick Welder and a 55 Gallon Barrel of Bondo for Christmas.

Agreed. Shitty welding is one thing. It's another thing to use a cement trowel and primer to hide shit work with gallons of bondo. It's outright fraud.
I thought I'd seen it all; chicken wire, soda cans pop riveted, fiberglass and newspaper. ironically, this one has more metal and welding involved than doing it right.
Good reminder to bring along a magnet and look/feel just as closely to all the inner surfaces of the sheetmetal panels when buying a body/car.

 

We've all seen body patches, now we've seen body shingles. Nice save Clark!

Looks like you've got the mindset to fix it right & When your done with it, there will be so little left of what you guys bought you'll wonder why you bought and paid for it any way.

That’s what I don’t understand! We have the internet, filled with articles, pics, how tos, etc that in 2018 there’s no reason for such ignorance.
