Getting ready to pull the trigger on a gauge package for the A banger project. Going electronic speedo for sure. 4 banger will not have pressure oil system to start with. Single wire GM alternator, so I've read to go with voltmeter instead of amps?
I have a 32 style dash rail installed. Trying to decide on populating gauges direct or using a bezel.
    What brand you all like?

I went with VDO because they had a 4K tack and 240 degree water temp gauges. Couldn't see running an 8 grand tach with a stock flathead and didn't want 280 plus temp gauges when the flattie doesn't run over 200.

Anything that does not have a name on it except for Stewart Warner. SW is a traditional name.
Dolphin ,Equus, VDO,et al are not paying me to advertise their stuff. I also remove dealer names off my dailies.

My Nova has Stewart Warners in the standard three hole panel, bought in 1983.
My roadster uses the new generation S/W winged series, from some of the comments lately, I can't say I'm feeling real warm and fuzzy about them.

I just ordered a set of Speedhut Gauges. I'll let you know how I like them when they come in and I get them installed.
They are USA made, lifetime guarantee, you design them, and they are built for you to your specs. Gene

I was eying these, at one point, before I decided on a stock '39 Deluxe set. (inspiration from the Frank Mack roadster)
Somewhat similar look to the SW's, but I like the V8 insignia, and the concentric circles, like the 39's.

  13. I cheapo'd out with a set of So Cal gauges. Hate the big red logos but I think I'll upgrade to a set of Classics when my ship comes in. 34dashwithwings.JPG

Stewart Warner winged gauges in my Model A with the 32 style dash, a real traditional style.

  18. I use S/W if I am buying new gauges. I have used VDO Cockpit gauges as well, but prefer S/W.

  19. I want to buy a set of new SW Deluxe gauges for their tradition, but their current reputation for poor reliability scares me away.

I'll probably go with a set of from Classic.

  21. I just sue the black face S/W gauges. They looks just like they did 50 years ago and if you know where to look and are willing to ask you can get the American ones still. Yes they still have a factory someplace here ( of course they may be assembled with import parts). I have used the Mexican gauges as well and unlike the rest of the internet I have never had a problem with either. Granted I have not tried anything electronic from them just good ol mechanical gauges.

I used Omega on my unibody. Didn't hurt the wallet that bad and work great so far. Technical support has been good too.

Anything BUT Stewart Warner. They are made in Mexico by a company called Maxima Technologies, which has Lancaster PA listed as its home office. That company does not have the term customer service in it's vocabulary. Too bad because their Wings series gauges with the curved lenses look the part in a "traditional" rod

in My 29 pickup I am using " Speedhut " gauges as they are only one inch deep and fit nicely into the stock dash plate without altering the Fuel Tank

I got a black face SW wings set for my roadster because the price was right and they look old school, well in one year and after the third speedo broke I found out they started making them Mexico and had NO technical support, called Summit Racing and spent the set back for full credit and ordered Classic instruments set. Plus Classic has a 7 year warranty and SW is 2 year.

I used vintage SW gauges and added some new ones to complete the set. The old ones work great and the new ones are crap. They say they are made in Mexico. That tells the whole story there. NO MORE NEW SW GAUGES FOR ME.
