Just removed the idler arm assembly on my 1950 fleetline to rebuild and replace the bushings. I have some damage to the drag link ball, any advice ? Live with or replace it, could it be a safety issue? It doesn't look like it would break to me but I'm always appreciative of opinions from other with more experience then myself! Thanks guys!! I would run it while looking for a better one at swap meets and eBay. I see nothing that would be a safety issue.
Run it, I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I would sand out the sharp and rough edges before installing new cups. Similar thing happened to the ball on my 55 and i filled the gouges with a weld and sanded/polished smooth before reassembly.
I bought one of those replacement balls for my '56 F100. The sides of mine were worn badly. The shank was undersize from what I took out. We centerpunched the shank to get a better fit and welded it to the spindles arm on the backside. The ball was just steel without any heat treatment. I would file smooth what you have.
