That design looks closer to the Boss 429. Boy, those pushrods look really long for some reason.

Ahh...Didn't these engines have "Single Over Head Cams" ??

  8. "This is not a SOHC Ford V8 but a 331 CID early Chrysler Hemi, shown here to illustrate a major attraction of the SOHC layout among Ford engineers. By placing the camshafts atop the cylinder heads, the pushrods could be eliminated altogether, permitting larger, straighter intake ports."

Looks like the picture came from here with above quote in article:

  15. Back in the '60s you could get almost anything from the dealer if you knew the right numbers to put on the order form or knew a dealer who knew how to order it. ;)

Ed Pink was building fuel motors from them, in an interview that I read a few years back ( maybe more the a few now) he said that they did not make good fuel motors the way that they came and it took a few trials and errors to come up with the right combo to make them hold together.

That SOHC engine cost more than my house and he all of a sudden loses all form of creativity and puts a Pep Boys Speed Shop SS acordian radiator hose on it.
    Roll eyes.

  17. I can even understand the SS braided hose. The guy, skinned his knuckles, set the engine in and pulled it out six times, then! when he finally gets it set down for the final time, he looks at the water neck and says awww...heck! and grabs any old thing a 1970's builder would have laying around. He was worn out.

What I keep thinking about is 5.5 mils clearance on the drag engine mains. This engine is getting spun to 7000 rpm -lord knows how many rpm --- loose as a goose. I guess it didn't last too long between teardowns.

Still looking for that development article but located these in meantime. A bit of duplication across publications however still good reading of a time gone by.
