You can tell which of this group are mechanics. It's the short guy in the middle, the one with the dirty overalls...

Hollywood Blvd., looking south from near Vine St.

Gilmore Stadium, near the corner of Fairfax and Beverly. Yes, the Detroit Lions played there, they played against the L.A. Don's, Los Angeles's professional football team. The Lions and the Chicago Bears and the San Francisco 49'rs plus a few others from back east were playing professional football before the NFL was founded I think, but only a few teams went into the NFL from the existing league (I can't remember what the league was called). And when they were not playing football at Gilmore, they raced midgets. Vic Edelbrock Sr. raced at Gilmore...

If you grew up in Hollywood, you had burgers and fries at this drive-in, on the corner of Sunset Blvd. and La Brea.

Before there was a Knott's Berry Farm, there was this place, which was where Cordelia Knott sold her pies, while her hubby Walter Knott, grew the berries.

I remember that it took me a while before I developed a taste for beer. But I never developed a taste for Brew 102 beer. This building was the Brew 102 brewery, in downtown L.A.. Supposedly, the name was concieved because they tried 101 different brews before settling on the 102nd brew. As far as I was concerned, they should have kept going.

The cliffs above the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). In the background is Santa Monica pier. I remember my dad telling me that the homes along the beach were very expensive "movie star" homes, some of them costing as much as $50,000.

It beats walking a beat. But since none of the police cars had radios, the cops had to stop every half hour or so and call in to the station on a land line to see if they had a run or not.

Sure it snowed in L.A. This is the Hollywood Freeway, not far from the Hollywood Bowl.

The Pasadena Freeway, before it was called the Pasadena Freeway.

Two things that L. A. is famous for, the super tall palm trees, and the Helms Bakery truck going up and down the streets every day selling bread and pastries...
