    The motor looks like it has tin can sleaves in all bores.

    hi , does it look like the area around the valves has been ground ? I know it is hard to tell because it is dirty .

    Hi I am wondering if what Banjo rear said is true what would be the reason for sleeving all 8 cylinders and is this a good thing as far as rebuild . thanks

    No it doesn't look like it has tin sleeves to me. I think he just saw the outline of the old gasket. Carefully take it apart and see if it's worn in the bore. If not, just rehone it, and install new rings and bearings.

    I also see no evidence of sleeves. Reasonable to suspect the ".125" stamp is for .125" overbore to 3.3125, and I don't think there's meat enough to go past that and then sleeve down to .125 over.
    Face it. you need to tear this thing down for identification/inspection/rebuild and quit trying to find a way to dance around it.

    After a second look, those gentlemen are right. I was looking at the photo on my phone and the pict was hard to see. I jumped onto my desk top the AM to take another look. Sorry if I alarmed you. There was a time that Ford was using sleeves, but your engine does not appear to have them like it was mentioned.

    I think whiskey runner makes perfect sense, 4 doors nondescript but the giddyup when needed.

    magnsflux block to be sure of no crack issues. look at lower left water port-at 10.00 o'clock position is that a start of a crack? been there several times . nice find and attack that bad boy.best of luck

    didn't get to far today removed timing cover and gear re-soaked everything will start on valve removal Monday if not raining .almond festival in Capay valley tomorrow for those that live in the California bay area .

    That is just a standard pre-49 valve assembly (mushroom tipped). Doesn't look new, but it's a lot better than some I've seen. Nothing hopped up about it unless the springs are stronger than stock.

    Aluminum timing gear; that's a plus. It also increases the probability that there is a performance cam in there. Back in those days, people wouldn't bother with an aluminum aftermarket gear on a regular rebuild.

I removed the oil pan today everything looks very clean , gonna start popping pistons and main caps . 20180228_162654_001.jpg 20180228_162707.jpg 20180228_162707.jpg someone marked the rods and caps by notching them ? number of cylinder .
