Take the spindle nut off, remove assembly, then put a tack weld on the head of the stud to the hub.

Put a deep well impact socket on the lug and a pry bar in the square hole and bend it over a couple times. It will break the stud

Is it the original truck rear end, or a newer one?

anyways, you can remove the axle by removing the rear cover (oil will pour out, be ready), the little bolt, the cross pin, and the axle retaining clip. Then when the axle is out, you can do the spot weld trick, or grind off the head of the stud, or whatever else you want to do.

Drill it right thru the end if the lug nut down past the engaged threads. Step up your bit sizes until it falls off.

  14. By neighbor has this issue.
Ford 9", nice aluminum wheels, shank style nug nuts ( threads all the way in there).

Our plan is to use a small diameter hole saw and have the stud be an internal pilot. Came up with that before Christmas still haven't tried it though

Just seen a tool for this in one of the snap on flyers the tool whore hands out.
It is a hole saw like cutter that takes out the threads of the lug nut.

This is the way to do it. Start with a small drill bit, as centered on the stud and as straight as possible, drill deep enough to reach the end of the threads in the nut, or to the end of the lug seat on the wheel. If the stud sticks out past the top of the lug nut, before I begin drilling, I grind the stud off flat with the top of the lug. Step up drill bits until the nut falls off or is easily broken off. Once the wheel is off, replace the stud and the lug nut.

I've done this on a lot of vehicles for many local shops over the past few years. No damage to the wheels, cost them a stud and a lug nut and my labor. With good drill bits, a good drill, and a careful hand, the process takes about half an hour. Gene

  18. If its steel wheels just smack it with a hammer it'll snap off the lug is no good anyway.

If its an alloy wheel take a dremmel or angle grinder and grind one side of the nut off then it will loosen up enough to get it off.
