Hope you are not buying from the vender I got my '50 Cad. starter from in L.A. They swore the had the correct one on the shelf. I actually picked it up on my way to LARS s couple of years ago. Got home and not close. Sent it back and it came back not much better. I finally had to measure from where the starter gear sits to the flywheel. I finally got a starter that fits and works.

Hope yours works well when you get it.

I think it should be right Gary, Gene from Flat O products gets them specifically made to work with his flathead adapters and his Y Block adapters, so I'm sure he'll send me the right one.

As an example of just how tight things are on this car.
When I dropped the engine in place I found out that the gear selector shaft was hitting directly on one of the 7/16" bolts that I used to bolt in the brake pedal -master cylinder mount.

This happened because I had originally had the pedal assembly tacked in place and when welded it would have been permanent.

So, I decided that it was better to have it removable for future service needs. That modification took place when the mockup engine was removed from the frame.

The solution was to remove the offending bolt and drill a hole one inch lower and reinstall the bolt.
    Isn't this fun :D

There's no such thing as perfect. Sounds like you hit a snag and worked through it. Job well done. A lesser man wouldn't have admitted it.;)

    Ain't that the truth :D

Thanks :D I like reporting the snags because it shows that no matter how hard you plan, something will usually happen.

And I thought I had racked my brain and mocked up and built this thing flawlessly :D As if :D

I had to remove the pedal assembly and get my air powered right angle drill with a stubby bit to be able to get at it to drill the hole.

Either that or pull the engine after I just got it in  :D

I'm interested in the straightener as well.

I did see that some other guys commented on a post about brake lines that you can do the same with a hole in a 6-8 inch chunk of wood. They said to add some grease in the hole and run the tubing through and it comes out straight. My luck I'd have grease all over the place before I was done.

Nothing earth shaking to report. I spent part of my weekend clearing my long driveway of the 8 -10” of snow we had over a couple of days.

Thank goodness for my snow blower.

The rest of my weekend was spent on getting the radiator and fan mount- shroud ready for the powder coating shop.
Added a petcock drain to the rad.

Also spent hours of nit picking modification time making the door latches able to be taken apart for finishing. ( powder coating individual pieces) then reassembly.

The way they were made they weren’t meant to be taken apart.
They were spot welded and riveted together

But now they are in pieces and after coating I’ll be able put them back together with machine screws and rivnuts and be happy.

Seems like a lot of work for something that will barely be seen but that’s me :D

All because I didn’t want to have bare steel door latch levers :D
    And so it goes.

Once again time is used up and baby steps are taken. :D
I started in on installing the Lokar emergency brake cables while I wait for a brake line deburring tool I ordered.
Along with that so that I can route them away from the exhaust I’m going to install part of the exhaust system.
And of course I’ll have to install the shifter and emergency brake lever on the transmission.

Then will come my next step in adapting some Lokar components with the Genie shifter I bought to create a sort of hybrid shifter.

If anyone ever tells you that a car that has been mocked up has all the hard stuff done you can just laugh at them.

Mind you as tedious as it all is this is a very pleasurable part of the build.

I’ll post pictures when there’s something to show :D

I got a call from the powder coating shop today and went to pick up my latest job.

My Griffin aluminum rad got a nice coating of heat dispersion satin black and the fan mount was done along with the pieces of the door latches.
I’m loving all the pretty parts. :)

Radiators for hot rods look far, far better in black than they do in shiny aluminum.

Especially true on a hood less car like my RPU even though it will be behind the stainless mesh grille insert I made for it, it’ll still look good.
And being a powder coating it’s really durable, along with the heat dispersion properties.

    Thanks JW :)

Times 2, inquiring minds want to know ?

  26. If it's heat dispersing, how does it hold enough heat to bake on? :p:D:D:D
The whole front end looks great, man. All those details you're sweating will pay off big!

Looking good! I’d assume you’ve talked details about that radiator already, any chance you know around what pages I’d go looking for it?

My powder coater is a race car guy and they use the stuff.
I was having all my other stuff coated and mentioned my radiator and he told me about it.
    Works well and looks nice.

I’m afraid you’ll have to look ;):D not sure what page it’s on.
