Anyone on here ran crank trigger on an fe? If so out of what parts did you build the setup out of. The front Mt covers pop up every so often. Does anyone no if they have provisions for water? Thanks in advance.

That is the start of some serious motor porn there. Schwing! (Although you are going to have to at least double the number of those little 97's to feed that beast).

I have run into similar problems with an old Weiand blower intake and my MEL as well.

Contact Barry Rabotnik at Survival Motorsports, he will have lots of options for you from both the distributor and crank trigger end of things.

There was an old thread on here a couple weeks ago that got brought back up to the front page about an FE distributor with a crab style top. It would be perfect for this application. See if you can find it.

Swartz Racing makes offset FE distributors too. That might gain you enough room to clear the blower.

  5. Why not seek out the after market front cover that moves the dist/mag forward and down on the left side and use a stub shaft to drive the oil pump. Crager made the cover and extra drive gear back in the sixties. Just a thought, then you can remove the dist/mag without removing the blower.

This is a dual distributor drive i made, but it could be an offset drive just as well. I used three gears from the Boston Gear catalog. But you could use two gears and a distributor that turns opposite of the Ford. Some 1/2 inch ID sealed ball bearings and aluminum scraps. Much less expensive than the very nice professional built pieces. I set it up a little tight and ran it in the drill press with lapping compound mixed with grease to lap the gears. Then cleaned it real well. Runs smooth as silk with no lash.

If you wanted to do that, I have run an Electromotive distributorless ignition. Reluctor wheel on the crank hub and a pick up. Really slick. Dial in advance. Worked great. But hardly fits the traditional mold.

I don't see a backfire valve, will you be installing one, here's one to consider or this one? Cheap insurance IMHO.

If you want to run it at an NHRA meet, you will need a burst panel. I modified a pop off intake to accept a burst panel when they wouldn't let it run any more.

Thanks everyone for getting on board with out all the negativity! This all very early mock-up. So there is alot not there yet. The intake is NOS from the sixties so it has not been drilled for a burst plate yet. Good eye and yes it will have one. The plan is 6-8 carbs or 4 port. It will most likely be a cackle car till i get i good bottom end for it. I would love to have a front cover for the dizzy. But in reality i could be waiting years to find one. I like the idea of crank trigger for now till i find i front cover.

What would it take to modify your front cover to drive a distributor say like a chevy lt1 optispark?
