History A Brief History of 2 Door Wagons

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Crazy Steve, Jan 6, 2018.

  1. The sedan delivery models used the same chassis as the regular station wagons. I had a 60 Chevy sedan delivery and got a rear seat from a 60 2 door wagon and it bolted right in(after I cut out the sheet metal brackets for the extended floor). 1960ChevroletSedanDeliveryBrownSide.jpg

Here is a 64 I had in the early 70's. Real nice original dark blue paint.
Prior owner had installed a 425 Olds/Muncie and 12 bolt, about all I did was add the rally's.
I don't know what rear gear it had but it ran out of steam about five grand (rpm's).

Somewhere I have the original letter from GM responding to my request for production numbers, the link below shows the numbers I remember.

The 64 and 65 Chevelle 2dr Wagons were the new midsize 300 series. While the Nomad name was used from 55 to 61 on the higher priced Wagon models, they did bring the Nomad name back in 68 till 72 on some of their midsize Chevelle 4dr Wagon economy models.

The Chevy II shown in post #21 is a either a home made car or that particular shot is more likely a "Dealer Brochure Picture". Dealer show car(s) may have also been built.
But Chevrolet never did make that style of Chevy II for sale to the public.

Anyone have production numbers on the 1953 Ford two door Ranch Wagon? I own one now, and
really like it. Also I drove a 1955 Nomad for 27 years, I miss that car.

Being this was back in the mid 70's, it's possible that he added the Nomad emblem, if it had one. I just remember it being a white two door with rally wheels for sure, and I wanted it! I haven't seen him in over 40 years, so no idea what ever became of it.

Interesting thread. I love 2 door wagons. Dad bought a 55 Ford Ranch Wagon in 58, good looking car with lots of style. In 63 my older sister got her license, the wagon had a rough life after that. I catch a 55 around Denver at some of the shows, same color, mild shaving, sure would like to have it.

I missed out buying a pretty nice 2 door 51 Plymouth wagon by about 30 seconds several years ago. The guy that was walking away from the Plymouth was the guy that had just agreed to buy it. He was going to find the cash. I had the cash in my pocket, but the owner waited until the other guy found the money.
I've looked off and on since then for a Plymouth 2 door wagon, but one never turned up when I was looking and actually had the money to buy one. These days, that desire has gone away. Gene

  25. 2-door wagons are neat! I especially like some of the odd ball 2-door hardtops.
