  2. Amazing Ted was brave enuf to melt this stuff! Magnesium is really dangerous stuff. Have always run aluminum Appliance mags on the rear of my Willys. Found a set of 8.5x15 Halibrands in the swap meet at a CHRR and bought them. Ran them for about a year, raw for a while then polished. Was great while it lasted but WAY too much maintenance so I took them off and will sell on Ebay.

  4. 20170526_154512.jpg I guess they're OK, if you like that sort of stuff... Mine turned a funny gray and are so light, they feel kinda chincy. Not like those "fancy" aluminum mags that everyone uses.;)

I ran a set on my 32 for years , shiny as a new minted dime when polished . A dog pissed 3 blocks away and my wheels were green ! Long gone but not forgotten . If I had to do it all over they would still be on the car green as grass !

I ran Hal magnesium knockoffs on my '23 and enjoy having my weekends back to build rather than polish.

  15. The ones on my '50 Ford will be for sale in the near future, I bought the car but not the wheels.

The fronts are 14" and the rears are 15".HRP

  16. There was (is) a guy in Tulare or Visalia Calif who specialized in vintage Haliband mags. He usually has several ads on ebaY for mag sets. I just looked but didn't see none of his ads. Keep looking there, he should show up again. he had at least one sea-train full of wheels and just a couple months ago I remember seeing him advertise to get more wheels for his inventory.

Here is a set that came with a car i bought.
The center cap threads onto the wheel.
It reads Halibrand Engineering . Is this the same company?
Has any one have info about these wheels? IMG_1618.JPG

Halibrand five-spokes were a 1990's or early 2000's thing, produced in Kansas. They are actually kind of rare and didn't sell many compared to the other style wheels they made.

Greg Shelton is his name and although he starts out asking stupid money for a lot of his stuff he will negotiate. When he put a pair of genuine ex Larry Huff "Soapy Sales" Donovan valve covers up on ebay a couple of years back I called and told him that he was out of his mind regarding what he wanted for them. I offered to trade a pair of 16 x 11 Halibrands for them as I needed the valve covers for my Huff/Don Long dragster restoration. He said that he would rather have the $ and a bit over a year later I purchased the covers for less than a third of his original ask (and less than what the wheels were worth on the open market).

  23. I have a set of 15 inch Speedways, I don,t see them being used? Kind of like the looks of them. Sort of like Kidney Beans. I bought Mine when the manufacture was in Kansas,That is I hope they were and not from the old country!
Anyway I like the look of them.

Not necessarily rare but you're right, not seen nearly as often as the Sprints.
These are 16x8's, fronts are 16x7's, they came with a plastic Halibrand center logo that you would peel and stick on the center cap, looked a little cheesy, I machined the raised ring on the cap face and repolished them.

All the wheels I have are 6 pin. I may have a pair but they would need to be plugged and redrilled.

  28. 6A51D3FD-7B3F-4CC3-BD0A-AE22DD663B26.jpeg Back in the mid 80’s, I had a set of small window skinny 16’s on the Frt of my 77 Ford truck and 15x8 small window on the back; total cash outlay was less than $500——that’s all they were worth at the time. Around 2005, Halibrand could be bought directly from the maker thru eBay. Your winning bid secured your set——I won a set of 15x4 1/2 & 15 x 7 with my choice of backspacing and bolt pattern shipped to Texas from Richard LeJuerne(spelling may be incorrect) for approx $1,000. Those days are gone!

What I liked most about them is you could set broken ones on fire and get a light as bright as an arc welder.
