With a bolt. Through a tab, or tabs preferably. Or a weld bung if the location in the frame allows it. And you need bushings and a sleeve.

 

Can you tell me the name of this method maybe so I can google some pictures? All the ones I find have clevis or tie rod ends

You'd be better off with a heim joint or tie-rod end, but.... what you have is basically a 4-link bushing end. Google 4-link bushing.

 

and that end unscrews, you could change it to something else, if there were a good reason to.

 

I'll want to run these perpendicular to the axle and parallel to the frame correct?

Speedway treated me today. Got the spring mounted, but the bat wings were on back order so they'll be here Thursday or Friday.

Gotta ream my steering arms so my bat wings will fit. Oh yeah, my bat wings came in.

Also, I want to throw out a kind word to speedway. I called them asking about the little lock pins for the king pins. I've torn mine up from removing them so many times, and they don't have them listed on their website by their self. When I called he said they don't part those out because they come in a kit, so he's just sending me a whole new king pin set!

I seem to make stuff like that on my lathe....but yeah, good idea to call them and get free parts!

 

Thanks to randy (wrenchbender) for reaming my steering arms! Got the front end put together. I heated and bent the hair pins closer together. They were 2 inches too wide for my bat wings. I need to cut that clevis end that's welded in off, and weld on a threaded bung and put in a new clevis, get a bushing set for the 4-link ends, make the mounts, and then I'll be able to start the cross member.

Squirrel, I want to see your hood hinge idea, If you don’t mind sharing that is (I know you drag week compete).
Speedway front end kit, no fender supports except the core support and I am in need of driver side mud bucket

it's not secret, they put this picture in Hot Rod magazine

 

Can I see the inside mounting? Is it as simple as it looks? Are you using the stock hood latch ?

The inside mounting...yeah, it's simple. I'll see if I can find a picture. Here we go.

There is a piece of steel angle (actually two flat pieces welded together), that make the fixed part of the hinge. Bolted with the fender bolt. The nut that it screws into came loose, so I reinforced it by welding a big washer around it. The piece of the hinge that is attached to the hood, is just a flat plate with a hole drilled in it, and a nut welded on.

Got this for $200... it's a lot more solid than the one I'm using most of the floor is in it, and the floor that isn't in it, i have in the yard. I'm gonna put the frame and firewall out of the first car, and put it in this one.

that sounds like a good plan!

 

I figured I'd have about $600-$800 in sheetmetal to fix the back of the first one, and I'd hire it done because I don't think it's something I could do. Just made since to go this route.

Yes, except the old frame is not going to follow the new floor pan. What's your plan for that?

Make up your mind

 

This looks like a good opportunity to start over with the frame rails to run from front to back where it would kick up in one piece.

 

Splice the cars together to make a really long, AWB, Chevy II. It's always best to start with the best body you can find; just too bad you did't find this one earlier. Who has't done that? I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
