Hey Guys! Thought I’d share my new gasser build. Had this 52 chevy laying around for a few years now and decided it was finally time to do something with it. A friend found the car at a garage sale and gave my dad and I the heads up. Long story short we bought the car 50/50 and my dad ended up working me a deal on his half and the rest is history.

I've been pretty pumped in get this thing going. Still hoping to have it going for this summer even though it might be a little rough around the edges. Planning to call it Mister Twister like my old 53. I guess you could say keepin it in the family since that was also the name of my dad's 67 GTX he raced back in the 70's.
    Anyways,, like to hear-it-goes..

I got to work by pulling the old 235/PG and of course the front suspension. Once i had the axle centerline positioned under the front where i wanted i realized that the truck springs were too long and hung out in front of the frame. My choice was to either buy new springs or lengthen the front of the frame. I ended up choosing the latter.

Some more pics of the front end going in. I mocked up a fender to get the tire where i wanted it. I personally think it looks good just a little foward in the wheel well.

If one thing i could've changed with the 53,, setting the engine back would've been it. I say that for two reasons, 1 for weight transfer and 2 for the sake of have more space between the radiator as the 49-54's are already pretty tight. I used a first gen nova steering box and bent up some 7/8" DOM tubing for the drag link and tie rod. this setup worked good on the old car so decided to do the same here.

Here's a few pics after the rearend, ladder bar fab was mostly done. All the work that i did underneath of the car you cant see but basically i built a removable tubular trans and ladder bar crossmember. Then reinforced the frame front to back with 2x2 box and tied the box into the ladder bar and trans crossmembers. Rear end is a 9" ford truck housing that i narrowed and centered the yoke. Running a 4.57 gear and 35 spline axles.

PS the car will sit higher in the front when done. The old truck springs turned out to be a little weaker than i give them credit for! I figure a little rearch will help fix that problem.

    thanks Guys!
I was at the point i wanted to make the 53 a little faster but to go faster than 11.50 technically it needs a roll bar. The 53 had a really nice interior that i did not want to hack into.. Basically the cage is the main reason i decided to build the new car. I was going to make my own cage until i found summit racing sold a cage for the 49-54 body style made by Rhodes race cars. I have to say i was impressed with how well everything fit together. I ended adding front bars to the frame making it a 12 point. I also took 1/8 plates and sealed to the floor pans as well as the frame.

Ended up replacing front quarters on both sides and the passenger rear with ems panels. Used a shrinker/ stretcher tool to make a new tail pan and also the rear wheel wells

    Mister Twister,

The car is looking great! What size are the rear wheels and the Hoosiers that you are running?

You obviously have good metal skills. Where'd you get those headers?

thanx kind words guys! Haven’t picked a color yet but that’ll be coming sooner than later lol!

Tires are 31 x 10.5s on 15x10 rim. That combo seemed to give the best look to me.

The headers were hooker super comps for a 70 Chevelle. I found them on the bargain rack at summit one day for $150! I figured that was cheaper than buying a diy kit plus these had the 2 1/8” primary tubes I wanted. I brought them home n chopped em up to fit. I made the collectors face back versus straight down like a traditional fender well just so it wouldn’t kick up so much dust at the track!

Thanks for the support guys! I got the deck lid in epoxy today and that’s about it. Next I plan to start to sand the epoxy down with either 80 or 120 to get ready for the polyester primer
