Going with the 59 caddy. I figured a little less is actually more. The caddy ones take up the small space between wheel and body and mimic exhaust.
In the pic they are not level as they are sagging. I am painting and then going to level ‘em out.

How is the trans tunnel attached to firewall ? Looks like tacks only.

There is a double layer of sheetmetal that sandwiches the 1” square tube. The inside layer (layer exposed to element on underside of tube) is fully welded. Top layer (inside cab on top of tube) is tacked. The pic you show received more tacks but fully welded is unnecessary as it will be covered with Dynamat. Hope that explanation made sense.

I actually don't like the way I did it but I really didn't have a choice. I needed the tubing structure for subframe support because the span where the trans is was just too much to leave unsupported. The tubing reduces any flex in the body up front. Unfortunately, to clean it up on the outside and inside they both needed to be skinned.

Here are the tail lights mocked up. [IMG][IMG]
I think one per side looks better than the two I was planning.

Yes it is loud. No doubt, but it sounds really friggin good. I thought it would sound more stock car like. I’m pleasantly surprised.

Did some tidying up the other day and after a couple days came back to the shop, fired it up and there was more exhaust popping.
Finally had a chance to get into the shop after being out of town and found the culprit was my ground strap wasn’t completely cinched back down tight. Basically barely any contact. Did that and then made new fuel lines and she fired up and sounded great. I adjusted TV cable and if it weren’t shitty outside I would’ve driven her.

And, yes, I knew the exhaust would be roaching the skin when I was building the headers

Also had a chance to make some pull knobs so that everything matched. [IMG][IMG]

Drove it around the shop and made a few adjustments. Probably the next time I post anything on this build will be a pic of the top when I get around to it. Poser shot until then. [IMG]

Already have a Coupester that was hacked into roadster waiting in the wings. That’ll be my next project. [IMG]

Yep! When I bought everything I didn’t know the doors and back half were all from the same car. That’s a bonus. I’ll probably drag all these parts into the shop before long to build a sub floor to get it all tied together. Can’t just let it sit out in that dark building ....

A couple pics of the coupe that finally made it home on the ONE decent day we had. [IMG]

Also got a start on the next project. Build #3 I need to find a name for it. It’ll be a separate build soon to come.
And the buried coupe that I drove all the way to Colorado for has perfect patch panels.
