Features Kustoms blues? I need to see some kustoms....

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by straykatkustoms, Oct 6, 2014.

  1. Real similar....except mine has all the rest of the Grapevine bodywork. I’d love to park mine next to that blue one...that’s a splendid car.

Yeah @DR.DAVE your ride is sweet, they say there’s a twin somewhere to everything. I’m a believer.

What I find most remarkable about Bob Iden's "X-Treme" coupe is how the up-dated grille bars, within the same grille shell, changed the whole front appearance...from boxy, to melted butter! Bending those shapes could not have been easy. It makes me wonder how the package was originally conceived.

Also interesting is the later re-structuring of the top (i.e., rear window).
The car evolved beautifully, but the "tagged' paint surely did no favors.

Dave Puhl had a big hand in the build, and it shows.

There's Puhl's trick grille work again!

..and a "post' car, at that!
One of the best '57's I've seen. Righteous!

Iden's X-Treme took its inspiration from the cantilevered-top version of Dave Stuckey's "Lil Coffin" (perhaps the most iconic custom car ever!). Note the nearly identical roofs.

The Lil' Coffin has quite a history of evolution of its own, some of which may surprise you.
(Remember Starbird's "Monkey Ward"? YEP!!! )

    Topless? OMG!

  18. .....especially true when your car is a near copy of someone else's from 50 years ago. LOL

I plan on being there. :) I look forward to meeting up with you!

This '60 Buick is new to me--never seen it before. It is awesome! Those needle nose bubble skirts are some of the best I've seen. I see the car has Michigan plates. By chance, are these original Jimmy Jones skirts?
By the way, great pics Debb! You must have the ol' scanner burnin' up, huh? E
