Started a Thread over on Custom Car Chronicle thought I should start one here too. So I purchased this 41 Merc convertible and sold my 41 sedan and business coupe so I could focus on one. I found this nicely started early custom project. The car had already been chopped 2 1/2, lowered a little, hard to find dash inserts, hole cut in the trunk to make the appearance of a recessed plate, shaved taillights and lights in the bumper guards. First order of business was to get it transported to Garlands Sacramento. Glen Dale took care of that for me! Next order was to one piece the hood and install the Merc/Zephyr combo front bumper Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The goal for this car is to have a flowing top like the Bill Gaylord 41 Ford Photos from Custom Car Chronicle Next order of business is the flat skirts. Paul reshaped the skirts to fit the car. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Like I mentioned the car was chopped 2 1/2, now it's almost 4 1/2. We may go a little more, just depends on what it looks like with the convertible top laid in place. We will see, but it's getting there! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Gaylord style tops are the cats meow. Chop it any more and the top might be too flat (my opinion only) and you what they say about options!
Vent windows done! The vent windows where not level, missing material and installed with the rear 1/2 inch higher than the front. Here is a before and after with Paul Garlands work Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Repair work on the deck lid area and getting it ready for the Carson top. Some full car shots and one restyled by Rik Hoving Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
My 112’s have unity spot handles, so Paul hooked me up with these nice chrome handles and a set of nice reproduction plastics from his shop Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
OMG! Finally...Appletons are back? Beautiful '41 Merc... I had a '48 convert. We chopped it 4-1/2", never followed thru with top. (I had some ideas, did a partial frame, but it was in 1962, and Customs were not popular!) Now I have a '47 Ford sedan. Cool taildragger...
