  8. Thanks for posting the article @Moriarity It is a very nicely styled car.

Wonder if it's still running the Paxton?

man... its really too bad it got painted the wrong color... what a cool car

  11. The green paint looks to still be in pretty good condition in those photos.

  12. Gotta agree with Mark, I liked the green much better. I think that would be the toughest thing about owning a historical custom--tradition.
People remember how a car was built way back when, and a lot of these cars were built by the masters. Sometimes "personalizing" cars like this does nothing but bruise the history of them.
Could you imagine if the original Hirohata Merc had been painted in other colors when it was restored?
The nice thing about paint is that it can be changed, even though its a lot of work and expense. E

  13. You're right, Sancho. That paint looks like it was a wash and wax away from being ready to go crusin'. I hope it wasn't changed just for sake of change and the paint really needed to be redone (in the wrong color)!

When I saw the orange I assumed it was built in the 80's. Neat car but I agree with those saying it's a shame it was repainted. The triple stripe tires on the original version really help the 60's look too and the current cheapie radials take away from it. That car as a detailed, totally untouched survivor would have made a lot more sense to me.

  16. Funny, when @pgan was first putting the Hirohata in R&C when Jim decided to start restoring it, I remember the statement being made in one article that Jim was debating which colors to redo it in....the original or the lime gold and green it had been the entire time he had had it. I wrote a letter into the mag that I half recall got published in letters to the Ed. that I preferred the original, but if Jim wanted it lime gold like he had alway had it, more power to him since by that point it had been the "McNiel" Merc a whole lot longer than the Hirohata Merc. Glad he went with the original though, just the same. ;)

  19. That Predicta Project is a page done by Mark Gustavson.....a name you 80's model builders and readers of Scale Auto Enthusiast might remember. He has the National Model Car Museum in Salt Lake which would be neat to see someday. He is also the guy that published the cool and comprehensive book on the Dream Truck. Originally there were plans for a really nice multimedia kit with photo etched parts, etc. of the DT, but I guess that has fallen by the wayside. Last I read he was working on a similar book on the Predicta, but I haven't seen that it's been published yet.
