    The chassis is back from being blasted. The cross member is gone and it is now on the new chassis table/jig for mocking everything up along with the new front suspension and ride height. The first picture shows where the rear wheels will be when sitting. The front end will be low as the finished pictures reflected before.

    The body is back on and making sure that everything is level and starting to figure out ride height and the rake we want the car to sit. The front wishbones are sitting on the front end now. A lot of work to be done. Hoping to have the engine sitting in between the rails for mock up in the near future. The new cross member will resemble the old cross member but will be laser cut along with some other details that will be shown on the updated chassis. Part of the firewall has been cut out. However it will all be gone soon and look more traditional.

    The tubular cross member was made the last time when we finished the car and the original frame was boxed in. Since we are going more traditional this time and less high tech, Lo Man Rods is going to design a new cross member and have it laser cut. Of course, I will continue to post updated pictures as it progresses.

    I am still looking for several Rockne parts if you know anyone that may have some.
    Headlights
    Tailights
    Bumpers
    Interior door handles and window cranks
    Deck lid handle
    And potentially more...

    Progress continues almost daily at the Lo Man Rods Shop. The firewall is now cut out and the engine is moved back further so there is clearance for the twin superchargers up front.

    The front engine plate is beginning to be mocked up to hold the twin superchargers for the new Studebaker engine that will go in the Rockne. The intake and dual fours will go on soon.

    Just a thought, have you considered removing that puller fan and putting it in front behind the grill and moving the engine forward, that way you would free up some interior space? Would there be sufficient clearance for pulleys, mechanical fan and radiator? Was that the original firewall, a slightly recessed version of that would compliment the car if it was?

    There will be a fan behind the radiator and the condenser will be gone since I am losing the air conditioning (never used it). The firewall was it original. There is a ton of room under the front cowl and with the air conditioner removed we have even more space. The firewall will be replaced to look more traditional.

    Thanks Jeff for the picture. I can’t wait to see this intake on the car and all tied into the superchargers!

    The firewall has been trimmed and cut out so more of the engine will be seen. The inner front frame rails are being reworked as well and the motor is now level. Once the rails are boxed and smooth, the shop will be making the engine mounts, etc. There will be a lot of trick things done on the motor for the twin superchargers including the laser cut front engine plate along with other parts. Some of which will be kept secret or not completely shown so the car is the first one out with them. Stay tuned.

    The front cross member has been reworked, boxed in and new brackets welded on. The inner frame rails are starting to take shape and getting welded and smooth ready for the newly made motor mounts.

    The new motor mounts have been fabricated and are ready to be welded onto the inner frame rails. Most every part is being made for the car. No cookie cutter parts especially since they do not exist for this car.

    The new rearend has been ordered and being built. We now have a larger tire on the rear wheels to fill the fender well even better than before and give it a better rake. You can see before that there was also a small gap between the tire and fender. I wanted it tightened up a little and the bigger tire to fill the wide fender.

    Next in line after the motor mounts are all in will be setting up the radius rods and designing and then laser cutting the new cross member to make it look more traditional over a tubular cross member that it used to have. We are working front to rear. Stay tuned over the next months for new updates. In the meantime, I will have my Willys out again next year and making the rounds to some new places. It is a thrill to drive - and yes we do drive it for those that know the car.

    Hey, Kevin;
    Thread rocks ----- Love me some Studes.
    Hopefully, all the neat fabbed parts will be shown, in detail. Not wanting to step on toes here, but would I be asking too much for details on fabbed parts, such as in thickness of materials used, & if any particular(special) version of steel or Al used (why), since I'm not an engineer, nor do I have the $$$ for a shop to do it for me. I'm thinking along the lines of the early articles in the very early streetrod mags, that actually gave good info - if the editors didn't screw it up. If this is too hard/takes too much time/is proprietary info, I understand, & thank you for showing what you do. You & shop do *really nice* work. = inspiring. As for the secret stuff, would you mind doing pics/tech after car is completed? Reason is, I'm a couple of years out from doing mine, & it is really helpful to see what has & is, being done. I can only *hope* to do as well.
    TIA.

    Thanks for the compliments. Some items will not be shown or totally until the car comes out. Unfortunately, for me, I am not as gifted as I am being made out to be here. God blessed me with some things and ideas to use, but I wasn’t blessed with these capabilities nor do I have the time to complete such a build. Even though I used to do more on cars and wanted to do more when I was younger, I am not doing any of this fabrication. As stated throughout a lot of these posts, Lo Man Rods in Tipp City, OH http://www.lo-manrods.com/ is building the car and deserves all the credit. Mac Nicewander is the owner. Tim Robbins with Lo Man Rods is doing most of the fabrication and metal work on the car. They also built my Willys, as shown in previous post and can be seen here https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/41-all-steel-willys-gasser-ex-elverne-pfeifer-car.786130.

    When we built this car after my father passed away, it took us 13 years to complete it! We had multiple shops and people work on the car and used as much of what we had that dad had already purchased. Therefore, I understand the $$$ thing and not being able to afford to pay someone to do it all. This time and 22 years later after my father passed away, due to it being taken to another level and definitely above anything that I can do, I am leaving it in the hands of others. It will still take a long time to complete since everything is new, along with the details/expectations I have for the car, and since I am not made of money just to throw at it. If it takes longer to get it to the level I want it to be at, then so be it. Probably the most help I will be is to show new ideas or parts that are being made for the car and be able to share it with others.

    I do appreciate others that post ideas or pictures of their builds on this site and other social media. “Good or bad” it gives me ideas for my own rides. It has been a blessing to then discuss these ideas and bounce them off the crew at Lo Man Rods and hear their thoughts on the way the car should go as well. Over the years, they have all become good friends there and NO I am not a part of the shop in any way - just a paying customer that grew up with Hot Rods in the family and finally get to enjoy them more on my own.

    Hey, Kevin;
    Thanks for the reply. Fair enough. I'm happy to extend credit & thanks "to them's that's doin' ". Pass on my comments if you think they'd be well received. If it's no big deal, would you ask them the same Q's? I can learn a lot from reading, seeing, & watching talented folks do things. Beats the H outa messing it up 5 times before it's barely acceptable... :D . I wasn't after dimensioned blueprints, just a few guidelines on materials used. Thicknesses of plate, ID n OD of tubing, & what used - if spl. Anything would help, but I'm not pushing. Hope it doesn't come across like that.
    I do remember seeing a feature on the car, which you mentioned earlier in the thread. It's also possible I saw the car "live" if it was at one of the StreetRod Nats/BTTF50's in MN, in the mid 70's. Somewhere, I saved the feature article. In any case, I'm happy this is coming back to the street. Did I mention I *like* Studes - esp early ones? ... :D .

    Wow, the magazine page where it says "Rockne Road" and talks about the car being painted grape...is from the first hot rod mag I ever owned! So amazing to see a car still around after so many years...man I wore that issue out looking at it so much.

    The car won at the very first Street Rod Nats in Peoria and a picture of it was shown in one of the magazine with my father and friends laying next to the car. He had it a many of the Nats and it would have been in MN in the mid 70’s as well. In all there were around 15 magazines that the car was in. Of course, it was most remembered when it was changed from black to the candy purple.

    No problem with asking for information. If you don’t ask, you never receive, right? I am not easily offended except when others tell me all the things they would change on a car if it were their own. It’s usually the people that don’t have anything that are the harshest critics. I may try to dig up some more historical photos and post of the car later.

    No connection. My father bought the car in 1968. Before that, I have pictures of it at an indoor car show in the early 60’s. I was at some time a race car but I do not have any documentation of it.

    Have you seen the thread Pics of 74 Nats? A few photos of this coupe in the grape paint are shown towards the end of the thread.

    Thank you cabriolethiboy for posting this picture of the Rockne from the 1974 Nationals on that thread. I had not seen this picture before. For anyone else that has old pictures of the car, I would love to see them.

    The cross member for the transmission is now in the car and squared up. Next, designs for the center cross member have been laid out in card board, measured and placed in Bend Tech. The designs are currently being laser cut. The rear wish bones will also be laid out more to flow with the cross member.

    The rear end is now mocked up in the car and measurements are being made for the rear wishbones, cross member and more. Rear plates and shock mounts are designed and being laser cut as well. Much more is going on at the same time as progress continues on the chassis.
