    Pomona. Probably in the 1950's (the track first opened in 1951), long before the Winternationals began (1961)...

    these shots are from castlewood, mo., which was a big resort area in rural st. louis county. the top pic was from 1946; the "bow wow" mentioned was a gangster called bow wow mcquillan. castlewood was a great place to get a drink during prohibition. bottom two shots were taken in the '20s.
