Folks Of Interest You Can’t Handle The Truth.

  1. Have you ever seen the movie "dilemma"?
It's a romantic comedy but one of the side stories there is providing musclecar soundtracks to be played in and thru silent electric vehicles. Their goal is to project the sound of high-performance vehicle.

It's a big enough part to get into the trailer.

Thought of this idea some time ago too.
    I'm surprised I haven't seen this done.

It's the old "if you Love what you're doing, it isn't work any longer"

I hope to 'work' until the day I die! :)

In the early 1900`s, about 50% of the cars were electric and 50`% ran on fuels. But you won`t read that in the history books either.

True in parts of the north-east US at that time and nowhere else in the world. The performance profile of early electrics happened to suit the needs of New England society ladies.

Yes, electric cars are gonna threaten us all sooner or later.......but, oil isn't going away, we need it for everything. Do you think electricity is gonna replace heavy equipment? The vehicles used in extreme environments? Not likely, furthermore, how much oil does it take to make a vehicle claiming to be environmentally friendly? Garlits was always ahead of the curve, its nothing new.

The only reason I don’t like EVs is you don't need a clutch and you don't get to change gears. Phil

    There's that range thing too.

In the early 1900`s, there were over 800 different kinds of automobiles being produced.

Interesting idea. Every time I pull up next to a Prius at an intersection I wonder if a big block Chevy could be stuffed in. Then I imagine all the people with the thumbs up sign for conservation would pee their pants upon side slipping the clutch! Electric dragsters would make for a less interesting cackle fest, in my opinion.

    I'll be honest.
I feel this topic is a stacked deck. At least is for me.
I feel that any counter to Don's truths violates the rules of this forum.

I have respect for what Ryan and the Moderators do here. I see the HAMB as a safe haven so to speak from a world gone crazy. Before I counter any of these truths I appeal to Ryan and the Moderators.

Can I post what I think is the truth or at least part of the truth of this matter?

I would much rather talk and read about flathead V8s, OHV push rod engines, points, carburetors and all those grand things that make up a traditional hot rod.

If I'm allowed, I'll chime in...... if not....back to talking about stuff that makes me happy.

Don was campaigning at NE dragway in 1967. He was working alone, and turned to talk w/me as a 15 year old. A top shelf memory of a guy who still inspires.

Jeese you guys, elec moteurs have full torque strarting at zero rpm.
Then there is rated, vs actual HP..
(Which we all bend a little BTW).
A 25 horse motor will crank up to ~ 4 times that amount, for a nice burst run!
(Yeah, yeah, then melt, I know).
May you run her up, (IC) till the pistons start swapping holes!

We have Chevy Bolts, at work, for running errands.

They are faster than a first generation Mustang, 0-60. We could tune them even quicker.

These are some of the slowest EV's.

I've long wanted to see one done gasseresque/street-freak style with a tube axle, fenderwell headers, tall blower, etc.

There's this wonderful thing called a torque converter ...

I've done the math, and all you need to match a Tesla's 0rpm wheel torque is about 200lb.ft and a loosish converter.
