Brian, from one 34 guy to another, a little help.
    1. a picture of the trunk,
    2. a measurement from the ground to the bottom of the front spreader bar?
    3. how tall are your rear tires?
    4. and while you are at it, ground to bottom of rear frame horns?

Your car looks great! I am a long ways behind you but I still have my foot on the go peddle. Ill run it out the back door and see if I can catch up.

I'm working today but this evening I'll try to remember to go out and do that for you. I noticed yesterday that somehow I managed to make a big gouge through the paint on the right rear corner of the gas tank. I'll have to brush touch it, I have no idea what happened, unless maybe I scuffed it with the buffer. There's always something...

Here's a "before and after", leaving out 30 years in between, while the car was parted out IMG_1217.JPG IMG_1219.JPG IMG_3698.JPG IMG_3701.JPG

OK, it's 11" from the spreader bar bolt hole to ground at the front, 12" at the rear. Center of front bar to ground is 9". IMG_3713.JPG View attachment 3790577 View attachment 3790578 View attachment 3790579 View attachment 3790580 IMG_3719.JPG The tires are 29" rear, 25" front. The trunk is ugly, but upholstery will cover a multitude of sins.

Golf clubs, case of beer, a couple of bodies... I was going to mount the lid as a trunk, but the cost of hinges made the rumble lid option look pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good..

Today was official "Cheap Fix" day. I "chromed" the chopped w/s frame on the kitchen table with some 1" and some 3/4" wide chrome body molding, for a total of $30. The result is outstanding, and in my new, non existent budget, since I've spent all the project money, some mortgage money, grocery money and part of my wife's Chrysler 300 payment this month on the roadster. I also "fixed" the dim repop '46 Chevy taillights by stretching out the springs to hold the bulbs a bit tighter against the contacts, and lining the black painted housings with chrome HVAC mylar tape. So, I saved over $800 today! ;) 27067651_10216097911103180_6211765529971499563_n.jpg 27067776_10216097910303160_6461412794002712794_n.jpg 27073203_10216097909703145_4375217458917174946_n.jpg 27460029_10216097910063154_8859536835830199103_n.jpg

So the original version of your 34 roadster was maroon, blown flathead and a quick change? Sounds vaguely familiar.

The guy that just sanded and polished the 34 calls these things California Car Scratchers.

Threatened to beat me with a rubber hose if he catches me using it on my cars after he is done buffing them.

I guess I won't use it on black then? Actually, yesterday I re-polished the passenger door, as I was laying on a creeper looking up, and it was dull and hazy at the base. So, I did it and the quarter (which still had a hazy area at the character line) over. I'll stay away from it after I glaze and wax it with that thing then!

Don't ask me Brian, I have one in every car. He says they keep him in business so keep using them if I want.

Those dusters seem to leave scratches (very fine ones) on some paint and none on others. Have a buddy with a 48 Ford sprayed way back in the day with dark maroon lacquer and it doesn't affect it at all. Another friend has an O/T painted with bcc and it scratches easily with the duster. I have had mixed results as well guess it depends on the paint from what I can tell. My experience with single stage is it's pretty darn resilient. Joe

One tip I will share is when using the duster, make a couple passes then brush it off with your hand away (from the car) then make another pass or two. Don't leave it on the surface and wipe the dust into the paint job. Don't get them near your wheels (brake dust). Clean them with your air hose occasionally. Keep them in the bag when stored and throw them away when they get all nasty.

  24. I've used one for over 20 years. never scratched my acrylic enamel. But, yours is long passed it's toss by date. Get a new one at Costco.

IMG_3733.JPG IMG_3734.JPG Guess what this is? If you said, "That looks like half of a roadster interior.", you'd be right!

IMG_3744.JPG IMG_3746.JPG IMG_3748.JPG I hung the door panel and sat the kick and quarter trims in the roadster. It looks great I think. Now I need more trim cement and 1/8 plywood to trim the top well and trunk, but I'm on target for Detroit.

Thanks! About the same time you were laying mat and resin in the '34 body, I was doing the same thing to my '27, also bought as an unbraced, floppy shell with no floor. For bracing in that, I made a bulkhead to support the seat back (the back seat and cushions from a Monza) of plywood, glassed some mahogany where the door jambs were going to be, and used Christmas wrapping tubes covered with a couple layers of mat for everything else. I didn't bother to make any photos, so you did much better than I did!

I'm sneaking up on the interior. The carpet should be here tomorrow, so I can get that done. I'm binding the edges with the saddle vinyl. I ordered the door safety locks (wouldn't want that passenger door to blow off again!), those should be here by Friday, so I can put the door panels on this weekend for good. The glass shop is taking their time cutting the windshield glass down 2", they've had it a week now. Aggravating. I also touched up the spring perches on the rear axle with some rattle can black. Progress. 27459797_10216144795875270_4617305442811016731_n.jpg 27540412_10216144796795293_4616008022458793270_n.jpg 27752359_10216144796395283_7127032943263625300_n.jpg
