My Falcon is routinely over 30mpg. Well, if traffic is actually moving, and that is with the carbureted engine.

The engine that I have on the stand in the garage has full closed-loop digital engine management, including spark control. I will put that in as soon as I get done fixing the damage from a texting teenager.

It was tested at 199hp, and 247lb-ft, which should be enough to motivate 2460lbs quite nicely.

The car already has a 6-speed manual transmission, with the top two gears being overdrives. The rear gears are spec'd to work out to be the same as a 2.56:1 set, if it had a 1:1 top gear.

Efficiency IS power. If you really want both, you won't be able to discuss it on this board.

    10 year old thread.......kewl!
Documented 30 mpg hwy when this motor/trans was in my Mustang. In the 300 hp range too. Now it's in the roadster that's half the weight of the Mustang. 35+??

Many years ago I had an El Camino with a stout 327 4sp. 4:11s. It got 10 mpg. I got the bright idea of adapting Cadillac 4-6-8 valve gear onto it, but before I did I removed the rockers and pushrods from four cylinders. It got 12 mpg. I put it back the way it was.

  8. Interesting front view. Please post another pic or three.

  9. Back in the late 70's I had an off topic Chevy Monza with a 262 cu. in. SBC that got 33 mpg with a 4 speed. I put an Erson RV cam in it and a 450 Holley Economaster carb and an SP2P manifold. It would out run my brothers 350/350 Camaro 2 bbl.

I often wish I would have harvested the 262 and 4-speed for an early 30's hot rod, but you know, times move on...

    Efficiency is power.

    Maximum efficiency is maximum power.

    Everything else is waste.

    I don't doubt it.

Modern engine designs, and complete digital powertrain management systems make old-school folks look like chimps, bashing rocks with sticks.
