  1. So, it is that time of year and in honor of the roadster show, I'v drawn a roadster.
Let's keep a friend to the artists and a friend, thanks to the HAMB, in our thoughts and prayers as Animal battles with some health set backs. Cheers Larry!!!

I like the '36 fender idea. I'd been looking at something similar a few years ago, but from the other end: a '32 grille shell on a slightly reproportioned (subtly sectioned/swept/Z'd/stretched) '36.

I was e-mailing some of my past drawings to someone this past week. It came as a shock to realize that the latest one was three years old. I've got to get back into it.

  17. A COOL ARTISY DIORAMA. I live near D.C. so I took my grandson to the museum's yesterday. I was taking pictures when I noticed him going after the pedal car. Lol Ron 20180125_121620.jpg 20180125_121517.jpg 20180125_121452.jpg

    Hello,

A long time ago, I took photos of a cool 51 Chevy Truck that was a dark maroon. It had all of the goodies that the typical 60’s cruiser/hot rodder would have on a custom truck. That Chevy truck was a daily driver, cruiser that I would not have minded owning. The truck was supposed to be a feature article in a local car mag, but I lost track of the whole process. Photos submitted, the car owner moved away, our own house moves, lost negatives/slides, family situations, but the result is still a mystery. Because, “Life” intervened…

The last time I sat in one of these old Chevy pickups, it was a little cramped (forward/back) for my 6 foot tall stature. That old 51 Chevy reminded me of the neighborhood 56 F 100 custom truck that was my introduction to custom cars and hot rods. This one was very nice and rode well, but a little cramped.

But, the Chevy truck headroom was, ok. So, I thought that it would be fun to see what it would look like if the cab was extended about 7 inches. (maybe chopped a couple of inches) The bed was a little long, so by shortening it and extending the cab, wouldn’t it still fit on the original frame? Then, I would have plenty of room to stretch out while in a driving position.

One crazy idea was to turn this old 51 Chevy Truck into a custom, open roadster pickup. Would it be possible with the parameters given? Much modification and customization would have to go into the fit and finish, but for some builders, it would be “doable.”

It would still be a 51 Chevy pick up truck, but a little modification makes it fit better in functionality and design. IMHO

Here is what our version of the 51 Chevy truck would have looked like, if we had stayed in the hot rod/engine performance building business. Precision Racing Engines... Long Beach, CA.

A recently found business card from 1960. A simulated engine turned, "orange-ish" color for max visibility, etc. The postal zip code in those days was just a double digit number.

In recent years, a neighbor started driving his “new” 2006 Chevy SS-R with and without the top down. My wife was amazed that this truck was a convertible, too. Since she likes convertibles, she mentioned that she “might” want to go sit in one… Perhaps, a new version of an old Chevy truck idea on her mind? Besides, it has A/C & cupholders, too.

For that same reason, cramped driving position in a 40 Ford Pickup vs. the extended room in a 40 Ford Sedan Delivery made the choice easy for me/us, back in those early (1960-70) decision making days.

Sorry to hear Larry is fighting some health issues. First met him at the HAMB Drags years ago and have donated items for his charity auctions over the years. Hope you're feeling better soon man.
