  3. As I mentioned in post #20, @Tom Branch maintains his father Bill Branch’s photo archive of ‘70s Street Rodding events ... including several from the '73, '74, & '75 LODI Mini Nationals.

Tom has graciously allowed me to share these pics with the H.A.M.B. community ... so here are some images that I'm almost positive were shot at LODI '74.

First up is a photo of two Bay Area Roadsters cars ... Dick Mendonca’s '28 RPU & Dennis Varni's '29 Hiboy:

I know it was asked on the '74 Street Rod Nats thread, regarding what ever happened to all the tourings/phaetons, and buckets. I'm also wondering what ever happened to all the widened Kelseys?

This car was built and owned by" Fat Jack Robinson" in the early '70's. When the photo was taken, it was and still is owned by Al Laprinchini.

  16. Nope ... the (Poncho-powered) butterscotch yellow ‘29 Hiboy is the predecessor of Billy B’s (FE-powered) “Ol Blue” ‘29 Hiboy.

    Here's a couple of circa 1973 pics of our Deuce 5wd Coupe & Billy's yellow '29 Hiboy:

    Billy's Butterscotch '29 (1973 - Pleasanton).jpg
This staged "1950s Filling Station" photo was taken at a gas station on Main St. in Pleasanton, California.
That's our Coupe on the left, Bill Burnham's butterscotch yellow '29 Hiboy in the center, and Clark Kibler's
silver '29 Hiboy on the right. The "hoodlum's" are Kibler (l), Gary Meadors (c), & Billy B (r).

    Billy's Butterscoth '29 (1973 - Livermore).jpg
This staged "1950s drag race" photo featured our 331ci HEMI powered
    '32 5wd Coupe up against Burnham's 321ci Pontiac powered '29 Hiboy.

... and here's a photo of Billy B's butterscotch '29 (now owned by @V8RPU) parked next to his "Ol Blue" '29 at the 2017 Goodguys West Coast Nats:

This poster was in a grocery store at the '77 Nationals. I was 14 at the time and asked the clerk if I could have it. He said yes but not until Sunday of the event. My dad (Wayne Miller) is fond of it because at the time Coors beer was not sold in WA state -- I remember it being a big deal to be able to buy Coors in California!

  20. My Dad's 40 Chevy in the background. Pretty sure this is when Pat Ganahl was shooting it for a feature in Street Rodder magazine. It was in the Dec. 74 issue. (1974) Billy B’s ‘29 Hiboy next to Guasco’s AMBR-winning Hiboy.jpg

I was 12 years old in 1973, and this style really drew me in too. Great looking rides, with paint, yes indeed. Also the same time in my life I decided I wanted to be a bodyman. More please!
