This hobby sure takes its twists and turns 20 years ago this car would've been considered garbage...why because there were millions of A's made and the metal would be warped and annealed to the point where the hours of work would nullify any value yet here are dozens of guys saying it is still viable?? I bought a rusty '57 Chev when guys were getting $50,000 for nice examples I paid a price that reflected that :-( today after much work the car is worth a couple grand LESS despite all the work done....my opinion......junk

  5. My hours don’t cost me a dime... I’m retired and if I wasn’t working on this, what would I be doing? I do this because I love doing this stuff... as an old guy, I have found that if you don’t use your skill’s you’ll lose em’... use em’ or lose em’... I’m gonna do as much as I can, for as long as I can...

I was working on a burned car last year, and you had to heat everything up with a torch to work the metal. It was in a garage fire that was put out by the fire department. I often wonder, what the metal would be like if the garage burnt to the ground and the metal was allowed to air cool surrounded by the coals and ash. It might be well annealed instead of hardend and easy to work.

Does the fire affect the stability of the metal? Would it be more brittle after being in a high temp fire?

That depends on an enumerable number of variables.

    The short answer is: maybe.

Remember "El Matador"? Look up some pictures after the fire, and after the fix- lotta work but they did it.

Tom Medley's 40 Ford as well.

Costs nothing but time to at least try.

Agree, so many variables to the condition of the metal. Heard of burn cars that would never hold paint.
Get it back on a frame and roughly car shape, leave it chunky and drive the hell out of it, fun car, fun build, good story.

I'd still use it for practice, at-least.

One can learn a lot when it is thought that there is nothing to lose.

  15. At this point is junk, a few parts worth pulling off.

As you said “ use em or loose em”
You have the time and the skills so see what happens.

You will either get it looking like a car again .... or not, cant screw it up worse!!
And cold beer tastes better with dirty hands !!
