  4. Don't I wish, I really like the '65/6 Impala 2 door.

I am not sure if my current project will count as a pure '60s build, more of an early build with a late '50s early '60s upgrade.

A bit more progress on the 65 fire truck conversion. I need a 64 to66 grill support panel if you have one.:) P1220001.JPG P1220002.JPG P1220003.JPG P1220005.JPG P1220009.JPG Gary

Beaner, the complete interior on my 63 Impala is from Cars Inc. No complaints fit and finish is great.

Here is our project. '63 Impala in a garage since 1973. Then and now. We have a long way to go! I hope we see it to the end. The project has been idle for a year. The boy in the picture can drive now! IMG_1868.JPG 20161024_150313.jpg

I've gotten several inquiries on the Tempest, posted earlier in this thread. I thought I'd post some of it here. It might
help some others along the way. I've got more build pics. Just ask for your particular concern.
    About the transmission:
"Those things are stronger than people think.
Billet servo, wide, welded Kevlar band, hardened stator support and pump vanes and rings. About it. First thing that will break is the forward drum nub shaft. If that happens, the car won't move. No metal goes anywhere. Then you fix it. Mine never broke. 1.53 60' times. My race partner has a 50 Chev, 455 Olds, similar power and ET. Hasn't broken anything in 10 years.
Don't believe everything on the internet or down at the Tastee Freeze cruise night. LOL.
    Thanks for asking"
About the trans tunnel: Hand rolled between some angle iron in the vise. Later insulated and carpeted.

About the tire clearance: 12 bolt Moser , custom ordered to the exact right width for 8" wheels and 28. 9 slicks.Outer wheel lip trimmed and some judicious work with a Ford tool on the inner tubs.

Ladder bars were the easiest way but not the best. Ride was terrible. I'd do something different next time. 100_3010.JPG

this isn't a project. just something I've had for a long time. my next "project" is to raise it back up and take off the Astros and replace the 20 year old tires on the stock wheels and mount those up with my cool hubcaps. Copy of IMG_8815.JPG

Thanks for the Tempest pictures Mark, very inspirational. Do you remember how wide the rear end was?
This is my '62 Tempest A/FX "kit". It's been on the back burner for a long while, may have to change that.

  19. No, but I had the steel wheels already for something else. I just made the rear fit them. Later, I found some 5 spokes that fit perfect too ,with slicks. So must be standard stuff. Maybe 3, 1/2' in the back?
You could back figure the rear width, probably.
I did order the rear with a center mounted pinion so I didn't have to move the rear of the tunnel, which is centered for the torque tube of course. That made the axles unequal length but it didn't worry me. I got the biggest axles they could put in a Tru Trac posi.

On milk crates. Mark are you sure your not from LA? Lol.
What was done about the steering box? Did the original one interfere with the right side exsaust. Is the pontiac stearing gear box the same as the olds/buick?

  26. Oh man that brings back old memories: the writing on the wall... my mom is currently 94 and still living in the house I grew up in (by her self)... so every time I go visit her I’ll go to the garage and look at the walls... when I was in high school I worked at a muffler shop with tools and welders, so my friend and I bought a Hillman Panel with no engine for next to nothing... we dropped in a 283 abc... on the walls we had spray panted : Chevy- Hillman... it’s still there from over 50 years ago... back then when life was Big and Grand, when we were full of piss and vinegar, we thought we were bulletproof and we also thought there wasn’t nuthin’ that we couldn’t do... so I love to look at the words we wrote, before life has a way of kicking your ass... Good old days...

Graduated HS in '65, and that was the vibe I was shooting for.
Not 100% correct, but close enough for me.
