Hot Rods Definitive Deuce Headlight Placement Thread

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by lothiandon1940, Jan 22, 2018.

  1. Post up pics of your headlight placement, fendered or fenderless. High, low, toward the front, toward the back, with or without a bar. Size and placement of headlights can make or break the look. Let us know how or why you did yours like you did,...Thanks, Don. 09222013.jpg

  4. Shameless self-promotion here. I've often considered moving mine lower and forward on So-Cal style mounts. 044-vi (1).jpg

I like the big headlights on standard bar, On any 32/34, like the big lights, I added the LED turn signals (41 Ford style) (rear 41 Chev) w/LED (aware not HAMB friendly) after a few close calls, I did't think people could see the little cycle lights mounted low, also the orange bulb in head light bucket does not show up at night either IMO. Like the traditional look 60's, but for MY safety, will/have added some modern safety features to all of my old cars. I drive these cars many miles(my enjoyment of having them) and somewhere along the way I've become more safety minded apposite of my first 40 or so years.

Under construction. Pete and Jake shock/headlight mounts. Height just looks right to me.

  14. Height looks good...........I would personally prefer bigger lights, but that's just me. '33 commercial lights would look killer there. Hey, it looks to be a cool ride one way or another..rock on.:)

IMG_20170330_0553243_rewind.jpg My 2 cents, So Cal mounts, shocks and headlights, even with grille, have vintage beehive lights for turn signals. IMG_2519.JPG

  18. Almost every car posted has stock headlights. I thought that was the first thing swapped out when a guy "hopped a car up" hahaha

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. I spent months looking at pics of headlight sizes and locations. Some really good threads here, plus I have a few thousand magazines. I decided the current big headlight fad wasn't for me. Most of the older pics I found they had King Bee or Dietz style headlights. Smaller lights. That's why I finally decided on the Dietz style. The big lights look fine but I didn't want that mass up front for this car.

  23. I had the big lights- '33 commercial.
Recently changed them for something a little smaller '35-37 commercial.
I felt they were more like those used in the '60's but big enough to get the turn signals inside.

Stock deuce lights as low as possible on a modified genie bar... I always like 'em low to hide the shocks from the front view. They cast really interesting shadows on low beam!!!

  25. I guess I’m just goofy and like early sealed beam lights on hotrods...king bees, guides, arrows, BLC...

But I’m also goofy and like fenders and undropped headlight bars

Wow, Chris....what a epic run of so classic HotRods!

Ok, what was the post about? That was something for tired eyes to see! Thank You for the effort to run all of those.

Seems to me, that roll out of cars? Run something! and make a Hot Rod...make it your own...OH! you will forget about what headlights you chose when boiling the tires for a Gal! Oh, this Saturday I sure noticed that the ladies of all ages...if you make eye contact as you see them look at you rolling by??...Give them a "look", then some wave like "watch this!".. Wow..try it guys!

no sense putting up a pic of mine, as I KNOW they were not looking at the lights!!!
    well, ok...same day..

Took an inch out of my Socal headlight mounts just to get a lower look and then made a crossbar to tie them together.
