pigfluxer, you should keep your wife's toes out of your mouth and the toenail polish won't tear you up.

Any good Body shop supply store can cross over the 1967 Bolero Red color formula to current paint technology and create a base/clear combination. Keep in mind the toners used in the 60's no longer exist, hell the toners used in the 80's 90's and even 2000's don't exist. The new formula's are computer generated and are the close's possible matches. I usually have them mix up a pint and do a test spray out and take it outside and see if I like it in natural light. Also Reds always "Pop" better over a white sealer or base color. Good luck and post some pictures when its done. Larry

Like One Bad 51 Merc said, a good paint store will spray sample cards to compare color.
In my case we buffed the lower lip on the wiper cowl ( not faded ) protected from the Sun under the hood for original color Riverside Red.
Over the years paint company's have consolidated similar colors like GM Riverside Red / Roman Red.

The paint store sprayed 2 sample cards for me. 1 Limco brand Roman Red and 1 sample card with Matrix Roman Red.
Picked the Matrix because it came out much closer to the original , Limco had a lot more orange.
So what ever color you like, you may want to look at sprayed samples, I was told that economy brands use about 7 tints, and better brands use 14.

  11. I too was after a 'pure' red for my project and as the posts indicate, the options were bewildering. I've had good success with Southern Polyurethane products so after some research, I chose their SPI Red base for my truck. Very pleased with the coverage characteristics and finished color tone. After some cost comparisons with other brands, I thought it was a good value for the quality.

My vote is 1985-6 Porsche Guards Red Laquer. I still have 2 gallons of this, but one was opened about 10 years ago, so truly I have one good gallon hopefully

I like '66 Plymouth Bright Red. No orange, no metallic, not in your face, just red. Also, if this is any help. When I was picking a color for my '40. I went to local auto parts and surplus stores. Bought cans of touch-up paint and put it on the car in different spots. Easy on...don't like it...easy off with 220.

  18. Don't overlook "fleet" colors. They are simple to spray, cover anything, hold out very well, colors are pure and simple, and they are usually cheaper. What a deal! ;)

My dad has a 66 Chevelle called regal red with the matching red interior. Amazing color. I had a torch red but too much orange for me. I have a 55 chev that is gypsy red and it looks pretty good too

Being a Studebaker guy, I'm partial to 1964 Bordeaux Red. A little darker than a lot of the examples posted here, so far.

HOK "Kosmos Red" over a white base. Deep red indoors and at night, a bright red in bright light. I'm not much for reds (he says owning a red GTO) but if I was doing red on something I like Ford code ES "Performance Red Clearcoat". On it's own it's red-red, park it next to a regular ol red it borders on Calypso Coral (AKA "Poppy Red) which is actually a really red shade of orange. Kool effect. The Kosmos Red does that too as long as its over white, but it sorta flops from red to almost maroon, no orange hues. I think most see reds different. I like the orange tones, don't like maroons. Some adore maroon shades. At the end of it all it's on you, how you see it.

Rustoleumn Safety Red , number 2 roller thinned 70-30 ! Ha ha ! The most brilliant red I remember seeing is Porsche red over a yellow base . It was so bright , I could not look at it directly on a bright day .
