We stopped on the '48 Chevy after getting a request from a gent to duplicate our last F1 truck for him.
Basically the same drivetrain and level of finish but it had to be a 1951 model year.
The first step was to source the truck.
We found a few cabs/chassis starts but complete trucks are a little tougher to locate. Finally located a candidate within reasonable distance, blew it apart and sent to sandblasting.
Gotta be done by March so here we go again!
    Comment if you like.
The new owner will be watching it go together on the HAMB. 20171121_105223.jpg 20171121_105232.jpg 20171121_105321.jpg 20171121_105345.jpg 20171128_120701.jpg 20171130_170854.jpg 20171202_115501.jpg

    On to the cab.
Etch primed everything to keep rust away until we can get to the rest of the body.
Cut some floor panels. 20171227_095605.jpg 20180105_094047.jpg

  10. Wow man.....bringing back lots'a great memories!....My youngest son and I started a 51 build (my avatar) a few years back.....got it completely torn down, but sadly never got to finish it
We were back in Minnesota at the time
to help my Mom n Pop out as she had Alzheimer's.....after she passed we moved back to Colorado....sadly no room to bring our Effie project back...
Oh well, so goes life....we do hope to do another one in the future, but as you said, the "complete" un-restored ones are getting harder to find.....I'll be watching your build....Really nice work so far!!

    Titled as a '51 so we're good.
Cab is now ready to prime and paint.
    Bottom sealed and undercoated today.

We buy low mileage roller engines, do a cam swap and reseal them. Easier to buy Fords than Chevy small blocks anymore

    As mentioned, 8.8 Ford.
Works well with an overdrive trans.
    Usually 3:55 ratio.

    Stock.
Flip the axle to the top.
    C- notched
    New pins and bushing kit.
    Or Posey springs will work.

Got the cab sprayed so should be able to black out the firewall tonight and set it on the chassis.
Randy can set up the pedals and column while I start on the glass, heater, Dynamat, cowl vent and wiper assembly.
    Doors are next. 20180113_130753.jpg 20180113_130759.jpg 20180113_130812.jpg

These are great body style trucks . I prefer the 48-50 myself because of the rear window side , but any of them are still way up on the wow factor .

  25. nice work..I miss my 51 F1...great trucks....

The cab was nice but the front floors were perforated to the point of becoming a messy patch job.
We'd rather make panels for a cleaner repair.
Makes it look good underneath also.

Cab is bolted down, pedal, booster and master cylinder mounted. Randy completed the brake lines so we can bleed the brakes this week.
Doing a complete chassis on a '56 for a buddy so we're gonna knock it out in the next couple of weeks hopefully.
I'll throw in a couple of pics of the '56.
    Started on it yesterday. 20180115_112243.jpg

    '56 chassis is done.
Waiting on driveshaft, valve covers and roller wheels so it can go home.
Gotta get back on the F1.
