Hidy out there. I’ve got a 1950 F1, I’m wondering if a front end (as in Fenders grill and maybe hood) from a 51-54 will bolt up to my model. You kno, the “tooth” type grill Anybody kno about em? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You would have to change fenders and entire grill surround to 50 to 52 as they were what had those grills, not to sure about the hood
That would be 51/52 as 53 and up are F100. That is all I know about F1 Fords except I need an F1 steering box for my Model A.
Kind of a technicality, but your 50 cab (48-50 style) has the smaller width rear window, and the single dash gage insert, vs the 51-52 which has a wider rear window and two dash gage inserts. Not that you can't put the 51-52 style front on your truck, just know that the cab 48-50 has slight differences in areas that will always be 48-50 style.
Thank you, i didnt kno that. I just bought the truck recently and this is my first classic so I’ve been doin alot of research on them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Personally I like the nose you have on it better appearance wise than the toothy nose. To me it is just cleaner and less busy.
Either front clip will fit any truck '48-51 but you can't mix and match pieces. You have to use everything '48-50 sheet metal or everything '51-52. The hoods will not interchange without some major redoing because the '48-50 has the latch mechanism in hood, the '51-52 has the latch mechanism in the panel above the grill. www.fatfenderedtrucks.com/partsinterchange.html
I was under the understanding that f1 changed as in 48-50 and 51-52 are the same . Complete dog house can be swapped between years , later stuff and early stuff has to stay together . I know I will here a bunch of non believers on this comment , but it is how I found this . “For Sale original owner 54 F4 Dump Truck” , this was the same cab and dog house as 52 f1 -F2 except for the fenders , wheel openings on f4 were very large . I was understanding all body changes happened in 53 but it seems as not true . The man I purchased the 54 f4 from was 87 and purchased it new (23,000 miles ) it had a 337 cubic flathead that went into a model A coupe with 47 truck open driveline made one sweet ride .
You are correct, the entire front sheet metal has to stay with the model year. '48-50 is the same. '51-52 is the same, with a couple of slight differences. The '51 hood is slightly different that the '52. Both will fit either the '51 or '52. You cannot mix the front sheet metal parts between the two different styles. There was no '54 F-1 or 2,3,4,5,6,7,8. In '53 Ford changed the designations to F-100 and so on. An F-4 wouldn't have had a 337 from the factory, as far as I know, only the F-7 and F-8 came with the bigger 337.
I understand about 337 , old dude never told me he swapped engines . There was a bunch of misunderstanding on that truck . I didn’t think that earlier cab was carried into 53 up years , and should not have had a 337 power Plant . But I bought it for 550.00 , used the cab , engine sold the rest to an antique / restorer . ...I have seen 51-2's with the same front fenders/grille but with a 48-50 hood, done by switching the hood latch parts I spose and mite not be a direct bolt on deal,...I've seen em the other way also,...personally I like the 48-50 trucks, , I like the smaller back window and the "monkey face" grille. the 48-52's have been classic shop trucks from day one. good luck with your project.
To clarify, the 51/52 grille style was to represent knuckles, like being tough. Not toothy, dagmar, bullets.
I really appreciate all the info here. But as far as the last post, what the hell does it matter? It’s a description, teeth, knuckles, prairie dogs, chickens hangin from a line. Its just a description of what you think it looks like Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
