Like a kid in a candy store. I remember watching new friend of 14yrs here in Ohio. He was from Florida and just moved here. It began to snow and watching his excitement was something Ive never forgotten.
I wonder how much a guy could make by hauling a truck load of down jackets down to Florida right now and selling them on a street corner.
There's lots more where that came from.... high winds today too. Visibility at noon in blowing snow was less than 100 yds...
I took my basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. in February, 1966. We had about a half inch of snow and the army suspended training for the day! I recall some of the guys from the south tried to make a snowman. Funny as hell.
I got off active duty in Ft. Jackson 1st week of February '65; same deal, maybe 1" of snow overnight. First Sergeant didn't want to let me go because of the snow. I convinced him that growing up in Pennsylvania I had driven in much worse.
Wow! Looks like you got at least 24 inches of snow! ...(In Florida, snow fall is measured horizontally.)
So how are you folks coping. Airports shut down? Public transit at a standstill? Mayhem on the highways? Looks pretty brutal, better hunker down and ride it out. Don't try to be a hero and go anywhere in those drifts or they may not find your body till Spring
Those Canadians spend a lot of Canadian dollars in Florida. Years ago my dad had a motel business on the Gulf coast: In the winter almost half his take was that funny money. That snow could be due to the slipstream from them heading south to the beach.
It was -29C (-20F) here last night - still not too cold to enjoy the hot tub outside - just couldn't leave the beer out too long or it froze!!!!
Watching the news last night and it was so cold in Florida that the Iguanas were falling out of the trees.
I was stationed at Ft. Bragg N.C. in 66-68, we got some light snow. I got to teach my southern buddies how to make snowballs. I grew up in North Dakota, had lots of experiance with snow. Seeing adults that were new at it was interesting.
Hoosier by birth, I grew up in Lakes winters. That being the primary reason I'm in SoCal, I can appreciate your comment.
