This maybe your first build thread, but it's not your first rodeo! nice work. If you need a S.Co.T. blower there's a local guy selling one, pm me if interested.

Nice work so far. Looks like it will be a super cool and fun little roadster when you're finished!

  14. I have bushed my pitman arms down so I could use a size smaller bolt. Also some grinding and smoothing helps it not look so bulky. You may have done this or better already by the looks of thing. IMG_2033.JPG

Just a suggestion, it's 308 stainless rod for stainless to stainless, 309 for stainless to mild steel.

Congrats on the roadster find. Looks great. Would love to find a roadster in that condition, my coupes need some topless company in the garage.

Thanks for the tip... I just double checked and I used 308L rod. Steel to steel. I'll have to research a bit and double check if this an issue. I have other friends that have done this but I didn't ask if it was 309....

Hi guys- sorry for the delay in this thread.... I finally made it out to the garage for the first time in 4 months due to my wife having surgery and also having my little niece staying with us for a bit. I am thinking about trying something crazy and wonder if any of you have actually done this with success-

Has anyone used a flattened 40 crossmember with a T rear spring with a halibrand? Natural sense says you need a model A rear crossmember, however, if I squint my eyes, I can vision that this could almost be done. Here is a close example of what I am shooting for- did any of you build this, and did it work in the end? Looks like a flat 32 crossmember:

Assuming the above concept will work, I went to work on a 40 rear x-member:

Finished up the spindles, steering and tie rod also last weekend. I cut down a tie rod for the drag link, and re worked an f100 steer arm and changed it from a ball to a normal 7degree tie rod socket so I could use standard tie rods at both ends. I am running 40 spindles and old chrome backing plates to go with my old chrome wishbone and axle....

20180416_203701.jpg Oh yeah- and picked up an original Schroeder wheel from a friend as well. I have a repop in stock, but wanted an original for this build. I think it's a Schroeder as the Bell wheels I think had more of a lip where the rubber meets the rim....

FYI you can use 309L to make cast iron repairs, but if you need to drill and tap it beware it's hard. You will need a carbide bit and can only tap it about 1/4 turn at a time go slow and easy. Frank

I would either patch in a piece of T or A rear crossmember, or curve the 40, so the top of the spring has an arched pocket to sit in. You won't be able to clamp it in place if the curved spring is trying to mount up to a flat surface.

Yes- agreed. I haven't got that far on my thinking yet, but you are right. Thanks for that catch, I would have figured it out the hard way

Thanks for reminder- I even posted in that thread but totally forgot about Cyclone Kevin's description . This gives me hope here.... for sure I am going to try to move the tank back a little like described in that thread...
