My 55' mercury was missing the orginal radio when I bought it. I have been looking for a replacement radio. They all need need some or a lot of rechroming work done. Does anyone have a guy they recommend that offers plating with his services?

These guys don’t have one, but they show a dealer locator for restoration work. Might be worth a look at that.

You might also try over at the Ford Barn, probably more radio interest over there.

I have a 55 Mercury radio that's been restored with a chip to receive am fm and aux. It also has a solid sate vibrator. I know a local outfit that does plating and can get you prices on it.

Here is a picture of it.

If going with an original radio, do what the previous poster suggested and have it rebuilt with the other (FM and aux input) functions. You can ignore this advice if you like listening to crop reports and foreign language stations. In this part of the country at least, that's all that's left on the AM band.

Good advise about the solid state vibrator chip. Old radios suffer from bad vibrators, they collect moisture and go bad very quickly if not played daily.

I have a local guy that has worked out of his home for years.
Ask local car stereo installers or vintage record dealers for leads to a repair shop.
I suggest removing the plated parts prior to repair. They are often plastic or pot metal and some effort may be required to find a plater that will take them on.

I have a Mopar Model 852 tube type push button AM 102_2563.JPG radio listed in the classifieds now for $20
