    One thing I've wondered about, maybe a dumb question but why were older buildings made with a false front or whatever it's called. Seems like it's common here in the midwest too. See how Earl's building has a gabled roof, but has that extra wall in front. What does that do? It's not structural, and costs more money to build right? I guess it looks nice with more of a finished appearance.

    Great shop! I'd just rent out the house and set up basic living quarters in the shop cause I'd probably never want to leave.

    Yes it is they redid it a few years ago but still pretty old school feel this is right when they did it in my drag car

    It is called a facade. ( false front )
    Mainly for decorative purposes. Usually done on main streets of towns.
    Possibly required in some instances by town planners.
    Generally not structural. Yes it would cost more.
