    Hello,

On one of our sojourns to the Northwest, we drove all along the California Coast Highway 1 through every small town and city. We wanted to get to the real Pacific Northwest area and beyond, to our final destination, Victoria, Canada. It was a couple of days of some of the finest driving roads in the world. The farther north the drive takes, the more desolate the coastline becomes with endless growth and trees from the water, inland as far as you can see.

While still in Northern California, we came across the city of Eureka. Yes, we stopped and both said… “Eureka” we found it. It was just ripe for that moment. For the next day, every other word was Eureka, a new sighting, etc. Lunch in this quaint small town on Humboldt Bay was very laid back. The town looked like it stepped out of the 50-60s with the huge bay and ocean as a backdrop.

Knowing of some surf spots from friends that went to Humboldt State College and friends that lived in the small town of Arcata. We just had to explore the surf breaks. The Eureka North Jetty (left in the old photo above) was our destination with folklore going back many years of surfing. The jetty area breaks are notorious for being double overhead on those huge winter swells.

Sometimes the surfers would paddle out along the jetty in the channel, as the surf broke in the middle. Some times the break was better on the northern area of the jetty. But, to see a swell peak in the middle of the channel leading back to the harbor was impressive to say the least.

The most impressive thing was of hearing stories of fishing boats going out in those huge waves and the Coast Guard boats that rescue them. Now, there are certain times and rules everyone has to follow for safety.

I should know who is driving the track roadster but I don't. He certainly looks familiar.

And the second attached photo is of Art Pollard in his supermodified days. Note that you can see the car's detachable cage/roof on the ground in the background.

The third attached photo is of the Hurtubise Mallard in the IMS Garage Area getting methanol from Valvoline. Notice that fabricated "spoilers" have been added to the nose. I think this is a 1967 photo.

And last is a fantastic photo of Bobby Grim in Hector Honore's "Black Deuce". Somehow this car survived and in often on display in a Terre Haute, Indiana museum looking just about like it does in the photo.

If I'm not mistaken this is Ron & Bud's car from The King Speed Shop in Lansing, Il. A suit was filed against Pontiac MD for the name and a 6 figure settlement was reached.... that's why the Pontiaac 'JUDGE' ceased production
